Scuba Tank for CO2?

Post by Maritimer » Wed Aug 15, 2012 4:03 pm

I have a scuba tank sitting around from my paintball days, has an adapter to 1/4" npt braided hose. Has anyone used one of these for CO2? It would save me some cash on a keg set up.

Is it filled with Co2 or breathing air?

If you pressurize a keg with breathing air, you had better drink it quick.

My only concern would be the tank material, and its reaction w/ co2. That and I really doubt any shop would fill it for you for that reason.

If he was using it for paintball, I would assume it had already been filled with CO2. In which case, if you've been using it for CO2 for several years without problem, it should be fine for beer.
If you haven't had CO2 in it before, like Stu said.
You could always sell it and use the cash towards a proper tank!

Don't some paintball markers use air now? always see the HPA tanks(compressed air).

that's right, I was using compressed air to fill my paintball tank. I did a bit of research and it seems to be up to the discretion of the company filling the tank, some will fill some won't. I haven't checked locally though, where is the best place to get CO2 fills?

Don Brentons. Search and you will find a thread about it.

edit - RubberToe mentioned a place that's cheaper if you're filling a 5lb tank. I think 10lb and up is still cheaper at Brentons though.
