There are 117 litres in a bbl

I'm tired of searching for that number. 31 US gallons.

At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Sorry, I only listen to unsubstantiated third party internet references.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_liter_for_1_barrel" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Somebody on wiki has no idea what they are writing about or they are using the wrong units. Look on the top of a 1/2 bbl keg for starters which reads 58.6 L I think. 117.347765 liters = 1 US barrel has always been the modern measure for brewing and it's not changing anytime soon. 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 L :cheers2:
There are different barrels used in the US.

barrel for beer or wine

1 barrel = 117.347765 liters

barrel for liquid

1 barrel = 119.24 liters

barrel for petroleum products

1 barrel = 158.987 liters

Yeah, I don't fucking know. I just need ballpark numbers to relate things I read in bbl to 5 gallon batches. Which is close enough to 6 to 1 for my brewing.

In defense of the Empire, I'd like to point out that the numbers Nash was throwing out were American, not Imperial.

otoh, the Empire probably has it's own inconsistent set of measures for barrels...
Currently on tap: Nothing!
In keg: Still nothing.
In Primary: Doggone American Rye Pale Ale

That doesn't change the fact that I hate the Imperial system.

What do Americans call their version of the Imperial system? The Republican system?

While "US Customary" wins points for correctness and geekiness, "Republican" was terribly clever :-)

I hate the Imperial system too, possibly mostly because while I preferentially use Metric weights, volumes and large distances, I still can't manage to remember I'm 178 centimetres tall, and would have to use a calculator to buy a pair of pants in Europe.

If the pants fit, wear them. No numbers required.

I can only get half of the ones that supposedly have the right numbers to fit - if I had to try on all of them ... well, I'd send my wife to buy me pants...
