Best keg fridge?

Post by bandarker » Sat Nov 22, 2014 12:10 pm

Hey all,

The compressor crapped out on my homemade keezer (Danby 3.6L freezer) and I'm looking for a new option to store 2 maybe 3 kegs. What would you guys recommend based on your experiences?

I'm not done building mine yet, but what I have is what most people recommend, I believe: the Danby 4.4cu. ft. all-fridge. Danby makes them, but they are rebranded to Whirlpool as well (which is what I have) and possibly other brands. This will hold 2 pin lock kegs and a 5lb CO2 tank comfortably, but will not hold 2 pin locks. I don't know what you'd have to buy to get 3 kegs in.

Walmart carries the Danby 4.4 in stainless steel

You can apparently get by with some of the Danby 4.3 models that have a "ice compartment" (rather than a "freezer") but it has to be carefully bent down against the back of the fridge to avoid breaking the coolant lines.

Costco has them for $179, that's what I have also.

I bought that exact same Danby from Princess Auto refurbed for 129.99 (it had a ding or two on it nothing major)

I have been pretty happy with it. Having no freezer is a plus for me and its hooked up to a STC 1000 and i can easily lower the temp to 0.5C for cold crashing.

I went in to Princess Auto last night and picked up a Danby 4.4 for $99, brand new - no scracthes/dents..etc. I think there were 5-6 of them there, but the one I bought was the only one had the $99 tag on it. The person at the cash suggested that if someone showed the sticker from mine, they'd sell the others for $99. I suspect just showing the photo should work. The others all say $129.

Wow that's an awesome deal! They were $150 at walmart today with the SS front. I'm on my way now - this ended up being an expensive weekend. New keg fridge, mash tun, kettle and burner.
