Beer Kegs

Post by RossBee » Sat Nov 01, 2014 9:48 am

Just bought 2 15.5 gallon Sanke's. They happen to be full, one is dated '05 the other '06, both Budwiser. I was thinking that they may have been frozen and I was going to dump them.

Being frugal minded, I decided to put them in the beer fridge. Suprisingly interesting, had no idea that Budwiser can have a malty flavour, a bit cloudy at the same time.

Again, being frugal minded, here's what I'm thinking:

Transfer the "beer" out of the Sanke's into Corneys and dry-hop, carbonate and see what happens.

Aside from a bit of work, CO2 and a small amount of hops, I'm thinking what's the downside?

Here's my question: Do I need to sterilize the hop pellets in some way or are enough compounds inherent in the hops and/or enough %alc present not to worry about it?

Any suggestions/advise?

You can. Boiling water or booze.

I don't. Greg dumps them in the manway at the Rock B.

Dry hopping may be messy in a corney. Make sure you do a major cleaning after.

So, after a week of dry-hopping the 2005 Budwiser with 100g of simpcoe, much to my suprise, the brew is actually palatable. Definitely improved overall , but still a beer for non-beer drinkers, i.e. the regular pump house crowd. My Brother-in-Law will love it, 3 more corneys for him.

Who knew, adding hops to a beer could actually add to the flavour and enjoyment??? Thinking old Anheiser didn't, or may it was young Anheiser? Helllllooooo!!!

Forging on the the 2006 keg, let's see what happens with the interaction of old Bud and Magnum.
