Moving to St John's
I'm in the process of moving to St John's for the next two years for school so I have been working to downsize my system to allow for apartment brewing.
Currently i'm brewing on a 100L system, with a keezer / 4 corny kegs and many large 5 gal carboys... clearly this is not apartment friendly.
My wife is staying at our house in Saint John and i'll be coming back for the summer and hopefully a few long weekends, so thankfully my 100L setup can remain undisturbed for my visits home.
I decided on going with a small batch eBIAB system. Picked up a 9 gal pot from Everwood, and built a heatstick out of 1.5" triclover fittings. I salvaged an old industrial control panel (from the garbage of one of the local mills) and built a simple electric controller.
The portable brewery is all packed up and ready for the drive and long ferry ride to St John's.

Looks good! Best of luck over there
Did you pick up some 3 gal kegs as well?
You can probably speed things up by putting the pot on the stove as well, I brew 5 gal batches on the stove all the time during winter.

Best of luck with the move, and be sure to give TonyL and cagiva650 your contact info, they are definitely the guys to know for making and drinking beer in Sin Jawns. We try to meet up during my frequent work trips.

Re: Moving to St John's
Thanks guys,
Shane - I'll let you know next time i'm in town, i can't wait to try some future hammond river brews.
Jon, I think i'll heat the water to strike temp using the stove / heat stick then use the heat stick to maintain the temps plugged into the controller.
I did pick up some cheap Chinese 3 gal kegs from an american site.. they gave me some trouble and i actually had to trim the springs in the outflow poppets by 1.5 coils to get them to dispense anything other than foam... i just figured that out last night before that i couldn't for the life of me figure out why they were spitting out nothing other than foam.

Re: Moving to St John's
I'm definitely looking forward to meeting some local brewers! I'm not too far from the downtown area in St John's, kind of between the downtown area and the university here.chalmers wrote:Best of luck with the move, and be sure to give TonyL and cagiva650 your contact info, they are definitely the guys to know for making and drinking beer in Sin Jawns. Officially broken in the mini brewery and new apartment. Brewed a black rye ipa, Vienna lager, and American amber.

I think your mini brewery is a lot more high-tech than a lot of our main systems...you've got Kirsten and I beat for sure!
Glad you're getting set up in your new place though.

Re: Moving to St John's
Well it turns out that i see very little temperature fluctuation in the stovetop BIAB so the controller isn't all the necessary. The heat stick is though. On the stove top it takes 1hr13m to bring 20L of water to a boil on max but with the heat stick it takes only 34 minutes.
Good thing the controller was built mostly out of spare parts and a cheap 25$ chinese PID. Its nice to have to alarm feature and temperature readout.
