Can you store green beans for a long time and roast a pound once a week or something like that? Not really looking at doing it anytime soon, just wondering what the benefits are.
I have been roasting for years. It is worth it to the effect that you can buy better quality beans and ensure they are fresh. Once you start roasting you won't want to buy the $6lb beans for long once you taste the better quality stuff available.

I started roasting in a popcorn popper. They work well, you just have to stir manually. They are messy with the chaff blowing around, so it's an outside thing.
Nowadays I use a Behmor 1600. It works well, and is consistent. It won't really go beyond full city though. You can cheat it by preheating for a minute then resetting it.

I had the Behmor for a few years as well and managed to do alot of dark roasts with it. Smaller batch sizes using the full pound setting always did it for me. Sweet little machine though!

It is still there. Little slip of a thing. I'm guessing it probably doesn't do more than a couple ounces at a time:

Looks like an expensive popcorn popper, IMHO. You can do the same thing with a 12 dollar superstore unit and a timer. They won't have chaff collection though.

Anyone on the thread able to do some repair work? A co-worker is in need and wondering if anyone can do it locally rather than sending it away to Ontario.

What is it? I do minor repairs. Other than that, call Gerald at Coffeetech Services 902-802-3018. He does pretty much all local espresso machine service and repair. Good guy. Good service.

This would make a nice little setup. Knock a few bucks off each item and you'd be able to get setup for a decent price.

Rancilio Silva Espresso Machine - $500

Baratza Vario Burr Grinder - $375

Might have to jump on that grinder. Just grabbed a hand grinder when I was looking, but that one looks like it might be too good a deal to pass up.

Yeah grab it.

Silvia's are outdated and not worth anything near the new prices in this day and age. $500 is almost worth it though  At $400 I'd say grab it. Otherwise buy something new with some bang for the buck.

I almost bought one new full price so I didn't bother. All looks to be in great condition and has been well taken care of. Plus he threw in a couple bags of beans, a knockbox, made me a cappuccino to demo how the grinder was working, even gave me a ton of leads for a machine once I'm ready for that expense.

Has anyone had any luck roasting beans with a rotisserie ? I have a vertical one at home that i received as a wedding gift and has temp control up to 500F. The only issue i have is i need some basket to hold the beans in.

Thats the machine i have right now. I picked it up after reading some positive reviews on coffee geek.

My problem is that i upgraded my grinder and it now surpasses the ability of that machine to brew, on the finer grind it backs up.

It did work great for 2 years though.
