Wife and myself were out for supper tonight and we ordered Alligator for an entree. Couldn't resist the sign they had out front.
The sign read... "Alligator... still the best tail around"...
Must say, we both enjoyed it.

Had some barbecued a few weeks back. I liked it.

I probably don't have to ask... but I will... what does it taste like?

I don't remember the tag the one time I had alligator, but it was at least as bad a joke as "best tail around". Surprisingly: tasted like chicken.

Yep, almost like between chicken and pork.

The one time I had it, it had so much cajun seasoning that I only remember the seasoning, but the appearance and texture was amazingly like chicken.

Ive been told by some fellas who hunt them, that gator is often passed off as scallops...
but what I find really strange is that someone would actually import this. Funny they can send it our way, but try getting a roast beef sandwhich into the states. Lol. Damn near got thrown in jail for that one. Yup...smuggling food in my carry on...

I shudder to think what their scallops taste like...
You can export beef to the states as easily as importing alligator - but either one can be difficult in your carry-on
We had a fun trip to Europe a few years ago (when the movie "Snakes on a plane" was out). Marta was on a no-carb diet, so packed her own lunch - which was basically just cubes of steak. At Heathrow security, the inspector looked suspiciously at her pyrex bowl of steak, and asked what it was. She said "steak". He said "SNAKE!!!" I think he really did hear her correctly, but it was his first, and probably only, chance to use that line...

I've never tasted Alligator, though I would totally love to, but I've always heard that it tastes very similar to chicken. I've never ever had a scallop that tastes like chicken. lol

How are your Spruce ales you have made?

The spruce IPA turned out quite nice. I also had a gallon of extra wort that my friend was going to grab some yeast for me at NG and pitch while cat sitting. I came back and saw it obviously fermented but no yeast was actually pitched. My first lambic spruce IPA! Got that into 8 bottles last night and it tastes fine.
The two batches of molasses/spruce ale haven't been bottled yet but those are this weekend projects (
not in conjunction with beerfest). They fermented well. Expecting 4.5% ABV on each. Good smells from the carboys so feeling good about them.

Good show.
I`m going to do another with a little more spruce this time to go with the feedback I got from the judges at the GCHC comp.
Although I feel the first one I did was good to my taste... and after all, that`s what counts the most.

Making it to your taste is pretty much it. Drinking my Spruce IPA in the middle of a crowd during one of my favourite band's sets with a couple of friends was pretty amazing last weekend.

Was that in St John's? If so, where? Looking for an exotic meal Monday.

Haha I can't say I've ever seen gator meat at a restaurant before. Coincidentally enough, I was listening to something on the radio the other day and they were talking about eating amphibians/reptiles. Apparently most taste like chicken. I have only tried frogs legs, but they certainly met that claim and it sounds like gator does too!
