Dual temp probe that transmist via Bluetooth to your iDevice ...

Looks cool ... but no idea how well it works.

In the same boat here. I've been on the fence about buying one of these for about a year. Would be a pretty handy tool for monitoring mash temp and/or water temp (while heating strike/sparge water) for me since I brew out my shed and am constantly running back and forth from the house.

We discussed electronic temperature probes while brewing at Tim's during the lagerfest. It seems most of us have killed at least one trying to use them in liquid. If anyone has experience with any kind of electronic thermometer that has survived well in a brew kettle, I'd love to hear.

Yeah, I've gone through at least a couple of the cheap President's Choice meat thermometers while brewing. That was another concern I had.

That said, this thing looks like it would be great for it's intended purpose as well, grilling.

I used to build thermocouples (never tried to boil them, they were for soil use). They were cheap as all hell (~$1 each) but they were never intended to be submersed in boiling liquid and calibrating is a pain in the ass without cheap labor to assist. I also don't know what I would cover the wires couplings in to keep them isolated from the wort, but someone else might have a solution to that.

It probably would be simpler just to do a bulk order of these.. I'm going to guess they run $100 each, but I might be able to talk my rep down since I am currently in the process of building a weather station through them. I have always loved Campbell Scientific quality. Sometimes you pay a bit more but they always have a great product/customer support.

Thermocouple wires will survive the rapture. Skin the ends, twist them, and that`s it.

I've gone through a quite a few digital thermometers both at work and at home. I've finally settled on one of these and have been pretty happy with it. They are fast reading, durable and accurate (but pricey). Now that I have one I can't see trying anything else.

That's one that I've looked at for quite a few years, not sure why I'm so hesitant dropping the money on it and not the iGrill. Likely a lot better quality than the iGrill.

those are great. But I keep them strictly for food and use thermocouple type thermos. Mainly cause I'm rough with stuff when I'm brewing.

Hmm, group order? They have pH meters as well (including one that has temp and pH in one meter). Looks like there are price breaks for some items when bought in multiples. And of course shipping will be reduced if we combine.

i might be convinced to get a thermapen. their pH meter doesn't do the 3 second temperature, so i'm not interested in it.

I use my thermapen for food and brewing. They're pretty tough.

The X-man just forwarded this along:

http://www.thermoworks.com/products/low ... t600c.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

$19/piece or $12/piece for 10 or more.
We've added another version of our popular RT600 series. The RT600C offers a Super-Fast™, reduced-tip probe for 5- to 6-second readings. The sealed body of the thermometer features rubberized switch panels, a robust LCD window, and it withstands temperatures to 190°F so you can record peak temperatures in commercial dishwashers using the Min/Max feature.

There are many digital pocket thermometers on the market that are similar in shape and cost. BUT, none are this fast! Most of the others have probes that are too short. Some have welded or brazed joints in the shaft which can shelter microbes or are easy to break. And, the body of the RT600C is just plain tougher than the others. Speed, reliability and affordability. The RT600C is a better choice for lab work, food processing and high-volume food service.

Thanks Jeff. I think I'd be down for one or two of these at that price. Just a one week sale though.

Maybe this needs it's own thread to gauge interest. At this price, it looks like a very good deal. Would somebody like to volunteer a new one. It's too hard on this phone to get anywhere.
