Anyone search these out locally? I haven't really looked around, but planned on heading out to get some tomorrow. I'd assume Shaw brick or places like that would have them, but do they sell on the retail level?

That's what I figured, but haven't really looked for them yet. I was planning on trying them tomorrow, but thought I'd save myself the trip if there was a better place to go.

I think I have a bunch lying around if you don't come up with something that works for you.

So I went in to Ultimate Home Comfort in Bayers Lake to pick up some fire bricks today. They were $5 each (don't know if that's good, bad, or average). They asked me what I was using them for, I said my BGE for the sake of simplicity (they are a BGE dealer). They panicked and informed me that I would void the warranty, and should something happen to my BGE, they wouldn't cover it...

Anyway, I thought that was pretty ridiculous and thought I would share.

I wasn't quite following the play-by-play, but didn't you get the Egg at CostCo? In which case you don't have a warranty...

I did get it at Costco and it comes with a lifetime warranty, though it isn't actually an Big Green Egg. My point was just that it's ridiculous they would void a warranty based on this..and how do they intend on enforcing this?

You could maybe try Kent or one of those places. You 'should' be able to find them for considerably less. Both Kent and HH have them listed online at $3.99 each which seems high although it's been about five yrs since I bought any. The first one I bought was $4 and change which I thought was high but bought one to get me started, then I realized I need more so I went to HH and found a box of 4 for $5. There's a bricklayer/mason on kijiji advertising he does anything with brick, stone or firebrick so he might be the fella to call, just do a search for fire brick (two words).

I purchased them while I was there, not looking anymore. I was more so just curious what the going price was since the grilling forums suggest they should be ~$1/each, though that would be in America.

Ah, well you've been calling it a BGE so I somewhat rashly assumed it was a BGE I just know (from here) that CostCo did have real BGEs, and BGE repudiated the warranties because they're not an authorized distributor. Obviously, if BGE will do that to customers (I'm sorry, it doesn't matter where you got it, the company should stand behind its product!) it doesn't surprise me that they'd void a warranty for using a firebrick (though, of course you're right that it's unenforceable, unless you were actually to tell BGE that you'd used firebricks when you were asking for in-warranty repairs).

Now I'm in the market for a pizza stone. From what I've read, a typical pizza stone will not last if being used on the charcoal grill. Is this really the case? Ultimate Home Comfort carries the BGE pizza stone, but it's $89..should I just suck it up and buy it?

I have one, it's epic About 5/8" or so thick, glazed one side for easy cleaning.

The cheapies are garbage.

No luck with Patio Perfect Plus in Hammonds Plains, or Total Gas & The Fireplace in Burnside. Are they the 2 dealers you were referring to?

You could always call Johnstone's and ask them. They were pretty friendly when I dealt with them.

I bought a BGE pizza stone + plate setter at Redmonds HH in tantallon for $130. The stone was about $50 I think. It's for a small though.

Thanks. I'll probably just pick the BGE 14" stone up from the local dealer since they have it in stock. I think online is probably about the same price by the time it's shipped.

Actually, I am going to give these guys a call tomorrow. $49 for the 16"..not sure on the cost of shipping though...
