Awesome score!

Let me start by saying I have absolutely no welding/steel fab skills... but I'd want a fire box off to the side & maybe leave it so you can still use it as a charcoal grill too. How to do that, no idea... :bbq:

That is a nice score. It must have been used as an open pit device, as I don't see any venting...

That is a good score, likely can utilize it as a smoker as is, or you could add a side firebox :cheers2:

Something like this design maybe:
http://www.costco.ca/Browse/Product.asp ... opnav=&s=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Check how flush the bottom and top seating is. It looks good from here, like a retail unit...

+3 for the side firebox. Add an adjustable exhaust vent in the lid, I can't see in the picture, but a, overlapping lip on the lid will help with the seal. Nice score! If you decide to ditch it, I'll take it.

Grab a wire brush for your drill and hit the exterior with it, then rattle on some bbq paint, or engine block paint. You can get better colors with engine paint, and it's high heat as well.

It does have an overlapping lip on the lid and makes a nice snug fit.
For now I think I'm just going to add some adjustable air vents on the ends, both lid and bottom.
:bbq:
The side mount firebox will likely come later.

Sweet deal, and I actually have the spare money kicking around to blow on something like that right now :lol:

Buuttt...I am actually looking to get rid of the 2 grills I have now. I've got a situation right now where I need to get rid of anything big taking up space that I really don't need :x

That's a sweet deal that wont come around very often at all and there's tons of ads on kijiji from people wanting them so it'll be gone quick if its not already gone. I'd buy it and loan it to me or Xman til you move your other grills out and have the space :lol:

I went out tonight and sealed the deal. $550! It needs a gasket set for the lid, and a BGE cover. It has a CTC crappy cover on it now. Comes with the rake, grate lifter and extended grill with fold in legs. Anyone around on Saturday morning in the sprytown area to help me put it on the trailer?

Well I'm glad one of us grabbed it. Welcome to the ceramic brotherhood! :cheers2:

I don't use a cover on them but some folks prefer one. For me they are basically useless, pain in the ass to use since I use the grill daily and they take hrs and hrs to cool down... and ceramic doesn't rust, and if it did I'm not sure a cover holding in all the moisture would slow it or speed it. :spilly: :spilly:

As for gasket replacement I highly recommend NOT buying another BGE felt gasket :spilly: :spilly:

Here's some pics of my Primo when I replaced the gasket, it's a Cotronics boiler gasket applied with Ultra Copper silicone which is pretty much the best solution out there so you're not frying gaskets on high-temp cooks. I can order you in a gasket but it'll take around 2 weeks likely. :cheers2:

Hey guys,

Question from a guy who knows little to nothing about smoking, but might want to get into it, is this a good starter smoker?

http://www.barbecuecountry.com/products ... ufacture=9" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Its the one on the lower left. (16 traditional vertical). I can get one for 30 bucks.

Thanks!

Actually Nick i just remembered that the spare boiler gasket I had for the BGE went to JohnnyMac when I sold it to him, but it's a spare since it had a like new felt gasket on it. Sooooo we could borrow you his and order him a new one. It's about $7 I think :cheers2:

If you're ordering them, you might as well order me a set for the XL. They're approaching the end of the line...

No worries on the help, I'll grab my BIL.
I will take the gasket set, NASH. It looks solid. Hell, order me 2.

Now I need to order a plate setter.

TIM GREGORY, I started on one of those smokers... I wore mine out! The thing I would change about it is to seal up the bottom under the pan and put in an adjustable air inlet. Also to be able to seal the lid sections better would have been nice too. I fabbed up a wind screen for mine, made it from flashing about 30 inches high. It made a big difference.

Tim, thats exactly the one I bought this spring. Its my first one and so far its been a great little rig to learn on. If I get 2 or 3 years out of it, I'll be happy & upgrade. I may have to make the access to the firebox a little bigger & I have thought about adjustable airvents.

For $30 its a no lose situation - grab it!

Well, I picked it up this morning! She is sitting in her nest on my deck right now... I can't decide what to make first!

If you need me, I'll be in the meat isle.
