Picked it up and attempting to make it work right now...I don't think my neighbors are going to like the smoke coming from the chimney!

I might have to take you up on that offer. I don't have a sweet clue what I am doing with it. I filled the chimney up, stocked it with paper underneath and lit it..let it sit for about 10 min then dumped er in. It's cooking, but I don't have any idea what to do with the vents

Looking good :)

I see it's missing the 'ash tray', usually an aluminum tray half way up the legs to catch ashes falling out of the bottom, not a big deal but maybe rig something up there to hold a pan or something. Anyways yeah, up for a little crash course any time :cheers2: As for the vents... wide open = more airflow = more heat. If it's not running hot enough open them further, if it's too hot close them down a bit. :cheers2:

Where do you guy's get your wood chunks?

Also, a bit off topic and a bit out there.. but plan on going camping this week and would prefer not to buy the shitty/wet wood from the camp site for the fire. Where can I buy decent firewood in small amounts? I'd like some for a backyard fire pit as well. Even better if I could get some quality oak for smoking with as well?? I'm in Halifax..

Cheers

I got my applewood from an old tree, and the maple from Nash, who got it from an old tree.

I get my wood chunks in the woods  :cheers2: Short of that Folly Mountain Hardwoods is the only place I've heard of that actually sells chunks for smoking, they sell Green Eggs as well so that's likely why. You could buy burning wood from them pretty cheap i think, or any other locals outside the city that are in the business, maybe check kijiji ads, bargain hunter et al for people selling hardwood. Be aware that regular firewood is cut with a chainsaw so the chain oil likely wouldn't taste that great on your food. Oh and oak spirals out of RIS are awesome for smoking

I've got logs of apple wood thats been drying for 2 years in my shed. I've also got some small trimmings from maple trees, probably 2 - 3 inches in diameter and various lengths. If you've got an Axe i'll bring you a log which will last you a long while, if not let me know and i'll split one up for you for a beer or 2

Thanks guys.. I have found the guys on Kijiji, might give one of them a call to see about getting a hatchback full of oak/maple.

Andrew, I'll take you up on that offer of the log of apple wood. No hurry, maybe at another hand off / H&T or something or I can head out your way to pick it up.

:cheers2:

I salvaged this monster BBQ from the curbside. It'll last forever, made from 3/16" plate steel. :grilling:
I'm thinking about making a smoker out of it.
Any suggestions on the best way to do that?
