And I'll be firing up the kettle at 5:30am for my Aeropress as I've been since 2011 when boy #1 was born.NASH wrote:Jesus fock. I hope you all live long enough to get that espresso system you want.

Nice. Part of why I ask about the non-espresso options is I figure starting out with a good grinder is better than buying a machine and continuing to use a crappy grinder.Jimmy wrote:My machine and grinder have literally paid themselves off at least 2 times, if not more by now.
Perfect. I've got to head that way Friday so I'll have to pop in. And you'd recommend the Vario over Preciso?Jimmy wrote:I actually purchased it from Java Blend. At the time they were cheaper than idrinkcoffee.com - plus they're local.
I had a couple problems with my preciso. First issue was something internal that they offered to walk me through or send a replacement - I took the replacement. The second issue was the burr holder cracked - they offered me a free burr holder (this part is designed to break if you run a rock or green bean through the grinder..I know that I did neither).BobbyOK wrote:Perfect. Yes indeed.BobbyOK wrote:And pick up some Guji while I'm at it?
Hopefully the messed-up batch of Guji is out the door by now. Over the weekend it was over roasted and disappointing.BobbyOK wrote:And pick up some Guji while I'm at it?
The benefits are in designing your own roasts the way YOU like them, experiment with different roast levels, different beans, different blends...... It's generally recommended you use green beans within a year.Jimmy wrote:So who has roasted their own beans? What's the advantage? Is it worth it?
Can you store green beans for a long time and roast a pound once a week or something like that? Not really looking at doing it anytime soon, just wondering what the benefits are.
Funny.NASH wrote:I have a decent little roaster I've been thinking about selling
That's kind of why I was thinking about it. Right now I'm using between 1/2 and 1lb a week. I don't make a lot of trips in town when working from home, so it's kind of a PITA to go for beans. I was thinking if I could buy a decent amount of green beans and roast 1lb at a time, I'd be set!CorneliusAlphonse wrote:you get fresh coffee without having to buy it every week
That's right. or buy 5 lbs roasted at a time and freeze the little fuckers. That's right.Jimmy wrote:That's kind of why I was thinking about it. Right now I'm using between 1/2 and 1lb a week. Been day dreaming of this too. But Read up that doing it in the fry pan can really stink up the house. However, Ebay had these nifty little bbq roasters...CorneliusAlphonse wrote:y brother roasts in a frypan.
