Vacuum sealers

Post by glassgiant » Sun Sep 08, 2013 1:41 pm

I'm going to guess there is a lot of crossover between homebrewers and people who use vacuum sealers. I'm looking for the latter. Anyone have any recommendations? I want one to freeze meat, fruit and veg. And possibly individual portions of lasagna and the like.

Next Up: A lager, I think

We have one that we use weekly, its a foodsaver brand i think, works well, the bags are expensive though. And wife bought the wrong brand from costco recently so if anyones in the market for an open bag that has 8 inches used lemme know.

foodsavers are the best selling I think. You can use the cheaper Rival bags in them. Somebody here has a snorkel type as well, which I believe allows you to use cheaper bags, and some specialized applications.

I've got the foodsaver brand, works fine for food and hops.

My main complaint with my old Foodsaver was that during a grain buy, we sealed so many bags that it burned through the strip, and they don't sell replacement parts. Wasn't happy about that. Got a better replacement on a hot deal at SS last year.

Thanks, everyone. Ended up with a foodsaver. I'll try the hint about the rival bags

I've got a snorkelvac and quite like it. Guess that doesn't help now though!

I pledged on a kickstarter for "Thrifty Vac." http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/106 ... yvac/posts It's supposed to be shipped in October so I can't vouch for how well it works but the idea is that it works with regular zipper bags by enclosing them in another bag fitted with a check valve.
