Looking for sausage casings

Post by jason.loxton » Thu Sep 27, 2012 11:05 am

Just got a meat grinder and sausage press for my birthday (best girlfriend ever!). Looking for sources of casings (cellulose, preferably) either in Halifax or, ideally, Sydney. Suggestions?

I got mine at Brothers on Agricola.

I still have some about 2 years old though.

You could always try Master Meats in Sydney or Horyl's in New Waterford.

I'm not sure how many guys here are geared up to make sausage, but maybe there would be enough to split up a bunch from Brothers? I was considering buying some not long ago, but when Nash told me you have to buy a box (or large bag, whatever it is), I realized it would be too much for me to handle with our limited freezer space. Anyhow, I would be interested in buying a portion of them if you choose to go that route.

I got mine at 2 boys smokehouse in cole harbour. $25 for a baseball size bag that will make well over 100lbs worth of sausage. Just thaw it in a bowl of cold water, pull off what you need, drain and refreeze the rest until next time.

Horyl's in New Waterford quoted me $35 for sufficient casings to make 100 pounds of sausage.
