Hello Brewnosers!

I got a homebrew kit through Reddit's Secret Santa gift exchange. I never used it for a few years until now when I borrowed a book on how to brew beers. I feel armed with brewing knowledge and ready to put it to use!

I had a couple of questions about this hobby... Is 1gal of Oatmeal Stout a good first time for a homebrew? Do any of you use a pressure cooker as a part of your process? I have one and wonder how to use it for home brewing.

Welcome! Oatmeal stout for first brew? If that's what you like, go for it! Pressure cooker - can't help you there, never used one.

Welcome. Go with what you enjoy. Not sure if the pm is a good idea as the lid should be off to boil off dms . If you want to sit in on a brew sometime I'm in sackville.

If your pressure cooker is big enough you can do a 1 gallon boil in it but don't put the top on it and under no circumstances would I recommend placing the wort under pressure. Home brewers worry about boil over and covering up a pot can make that happen allot faster. Is your kit a few years old? LME? If so it may have gone bad. Nothing wrong with an Oatmeal Stout for a first brew. Everyone learns differently but I found it helpful to do Festa Brew/Brew house Kits to learn about proper sanitation and fermentation temperature but that doesn't mean you have to do it that way. Extract can make good beer to.
