Hi from Newfoundland

Post by cagiva650 » Wed Mar 19, 2014 2:26 pm

Hi there. My name is Frank. My home is in Torbay Newfoundland, even further east than Tony L ;) I am a long time lurker, beer lover and beginner homebrewer. One gallon all grain batches. I have met and had beers with several Brewnosers. My brother was based at Shearwater so my wife and I used to travel to Nova Scotia about once a month. Loved going there. But he got transferred to Ontario. Not nearly so much fun :( Finally getting around to joining Brewnosers. I am on the Beerthief, Bartowel and Beeradvocate forums. I look forward to talking about beer with you all.

:welcome: there are others on here who do 1 gallon batches as well.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Welcome to the Brewnosers as in joining and not just lurking.

We should get the guys together for a BBQ soon when this cold weather finally passes. :grilling:

Howdy Frank! Welcome aboard!

Great to see you again in February, it had been too long! Give us a warning when you'll be back over, and we'll have a tasting night. :)

ps. Are you going to Mondiale this year? EZ and I are, really looking forward to it.

I'm undecided about Mondial. I booked vacation for those dates with the intention of going. The 2013 Mondial was my 8th :) but it wasn't as good as previous years. No Vermont Brewers booth. Always a favorite. Saint Bock never had any Belgian beer last year. They used to have some fantastic Lambics. Mondial's rules changed. They charged for every different brewery represented making it too expensive to have a bunch of Belgian beers listed. There were fewer small brewers and more of a presence from the big guys. Still loads of great beer to try. And always a fun event. Plus Mondial 2014 will be a different weekend from the Grand Prix, so hotels should be much more reasonable.

Oh geez, now you tell me! ;)

I'm sure we'll have a good time anyway, even if it isn't as good as before. Thankfully there'll be other opportunities for drinking and eating. If you do decide to go, be sure to let me know.
