New to Halifax

Post by David.Paterson » Sat Sep 08, 2018 4:58 pm

Hi folks, Dave here. I've been brewing part-time on and off for many a moon, mostly partial mash but more recently BIAB.

A couple months ago I moved here from Vancouver, leaving behind my brewing set-up. My current shared living situation isn't especially conducive to brewing at my place, but I'm interested in starting up again, perhaps in collaboration with new brewing friends that have bigger spaces.

I'm equal opportunity when it comes to styles, with some of my favourites being IPAs, porters, browns and sours. Some of my recent brews have been from Sam Calagione's Extreme Brewing book, including a Rosemary, Sage, Parsley and Thyme Saison, and a Port-Barrel Aged Belgian Brown. My last two bottles of brew are now a couple years old but still tasty, a black currant smoked porter. I'll bring this one to an upcoming Brew Nosers meet.

Dave

Welcome Dave! I’m a Vancouver transplant as well, albeit 4+ years ago! Hope to see out at the next meeting. I do BIAB myself so a brew collab would be fun for sure!

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
