Re: Antigonish Townhouse
It is, but one major problem is that the coupons expire, if you don't use them on a monthly/bi-monthly basis as they are issued. That's a deal killer for out of town involvement. And there still aren't any real details...

Re: Antigonish Townhouse
That's reassuring anyway...Payment
Only after our location has been secured, and all other funding is in place, will we contact you to collect your payment and pick up your membership/coupons. In the unfortunate event that we are unable to secure the location or funding, we will thank you for your support, but you will owe us nothing.
I just sent an email out to some friends who have connections to Antigonish. I might chip in if they're interested.

It sort of is, but it sort of isn't. Suppose their business plan is an absolute disaster, they take your money, and go bust in 5 months with a huge debt. You'll be far from a secured creditor...this is the problem for me with everyone of the schemes I've seen so far. The devil is in the details.

Well, it seems they've wrangled out $45,000 so far. Fairly successful on that front.

Nice looking setup for industrialized HB but I would suspect a commercial scale PITA.

Agreed, although our stand is in the shop now for upgradesKMcK wrote:I bet the General could outbrew that thing.

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Re: Antigonish Townhouse
FYI...
I just asked them how often they planned on brewing (and how many styles of beer on tap) given the Sabco batch size limit.Rose from the Townhouse wrote: thanks for the note. We will start out just brewing one variety, probably a classic english style bitter, and then ramp things up form there. Unfortunately we've run into some issues around clearance and fuel safety regs and will have to move the brewery upstairs, and even more unfortunately, we can't do that until September because there are tenants upstairs at present! So the brewing will have to wait until the fall. In the meantime however, we will have 8 taps of Maritime Craft Beer! Propeller, Garrison, Granite, & Pumphouse, plus bottles of Picaroons and SeaLevel. We're hoping to open next week, so keep your eyes peeled...

That's not very good news. Regardless, it sounds like they may have something on tap at Thanksgiving, though they won't have anything for my next trip down, which could be soon.hogie wrote:FYI...

Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

Re: Antigonish Townhouse
So the Townhouse opened already! I see a big story on the front page of the Chronically Horrid today. Of course there is no comment on what types of beer they will make, what it might taste like, or what type of food is on the menu. Or what it looks like inside. Or whether they have entertainment, or a view or a patio, etc. Not a very useful article for pub lovers.
Still, it is a nice story on how they got the funding and got it going. Did anyone go down for their opening? I wish I had the time this week to pop down.
I hope to check it out later this summer.
EDIT - I guess I'll probably wait until they have their own beer on tap...

Re: Antigonish Townhouse
Judging from the size of that system, if they have any amount of traffic, you'll be hard pressed to time that right. And considering the time it takes to brew a batch of beer, I think that brewing on that size of a system will be re-valuated in short order.
At any rate, I may take a spin down this week.

Re: Antigonish Townhouse
That looks exactly like the system the boys use at Shiretown in Dalhousie. Very small...

It was not a good decision for a number of reasons AFAIAC. But at any rate, I think the location is right.

I'm sure you, like me, wish them luck. As long as they brew good beer, they should be OK. They can always expand, right?

Re: Antigonish Townhouse
I'm not sure what's up. From what I read, they couldn't even use the little system because of code restrictions, so I'm not sure what they can do to expand. But I do wish them good luck so long as they're moving good beer.
