La Torta + Discussion On Social Media Advertising
I’m in the mood for a fictional tale, and let me tell you ..I’m in a mood!
The story begins with my trip to town to the new Craft Beer and WoodFired pizza place In Wolfville this evening. It has been open for five days and it was packed. I had some good beer which was made by a local brewer BadApple.
.....................................................................................................................................................................................
.....................................................................................................................................................................................
Had a great Pizza and great beer. Craft beer wins the day and I have a new favorite restaurant. I don’t know why I worry so much, craft beer will always win.

Re: La Torta
I couldn't tell what was fact and what was fiction in that story, but I truly enjoyed my pie and Bad Apple IPA when I visited yesterday. There were four other craft beers and a cider on tap when I was there (plus a rig for wine on tap).
Let's keep the talk to real-world facts and knowledge, rather than 3rd or 4th hand rumours and thinly-veiled stories.

Yes, Back to reality, one certain thing, I enjoyed the Boxcutter IPA. It was good for an out of the house beer, and that's really appreciated, especially around here. If someone is getting his needs met at home he/she seldom strays. I hope Jeff doesn't take offense but I never buy beer to take home, and haven't been there to buy beer in ages, but I really enjoy a good pint when I am out. Thanks! The last time I think I bought beer from him was when he just started and made some incredible beer at Christmas time. I can't remember exactly the beer, but I really cherished that growler.chalmers wrote:I couldn't tell what was fact and what was fiction in that story, but I truly enjoyed my pie and Bad Apple IPA when I visited yesterday. Re: La Torta
Pizza and beer ....it makes sense. It's a balance. If you are confused, you either need more beer or more pizza. I was working on the guy. I will not be happy until there is a Fruits de mer pizza there. I spent too much time in the Mediterranean. I was smart, I asked the guy what pizza to order. If someone comes to my house and asks what beer I would recommend, I tell them exactly which beer they need and tell them they can't have any because I'm saving it for competitions. Later I give in and dish it all out and then there is none leftjacinthebox wrote:So a pizza terrorist was mad about some bad apple pies...I'm so confused

For all the complaints you have about people berating you, you certainly hose on about certain others. People are people, everyone's flawed, leave it alone.

I took out the story, but it wasn't about people berating me. It was concerns I had about what is going on behind the scenes lately in local craft beer.CorneliusAlphonse wrote:For all the complaints you have about people berating you, you certainly hose on about certain others. These guys need a website, twitter account, facebook page or something. No online presence at all.
Anyway, I plan on checking it out the next time we're down that way.

Re: La Torta
Noticed that also. Social media can be a thorn in your side for a business (unless you know what you are doing), but a web site would be a good idea.

Re: La Torta
I think social media is huge for a business - especially something like this. An instagram account, facebook page, or twitter account where pictures of the various pizzas are posted (and customers can post/tag their own pictures) is a big deal. It gets people talking.GuingesRock wrote:Noticed that also. Social media can be a thorn in your side for a business (unless you know what you are doing), but a web site would be a good idea.

Re: La Torta
Agreed but you really need to know what you are doing. I went to a good talk on this by the guy from Muskoka. They have a very progressive social marketing style, directed mostly at young people. Some of his ideas (that I remember) are ...never tell people they should be drinking your beer, that old style marketing doesn't work with the critically minded craft beer drinking ...put it in their hands and let it run.
My comment also is for goodness sake have a professional involved, or it can all go horribly wrong ...no sex, religion and politics
Here's some promotional media of theirs:
I can't find the one I wanted. Will have a look later.

Re: La Torta
I don't think it takes a professional to run a social media account, and content definitely depends on the industry and social media platform.
There are a ton of small businesses running very successful social media accounts - it just takes a bit of research. Shopify is actually a pretty good resource for non-professionals looking to run social media accounts...this is just one of their blog posts on the topic.

Re: La Torta
You might be right, and resources like that should be looked into.
It's easy to put people off, and that's counter productive. I watch all this stuff on Twitter and it's easy to pick out the people that know what they are doing.
It's so easy to tear a strip of a brewery if they carelessly put a foot wrong. Then there's the old adage ..."you can please some of the people, some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time".
In some ways therefor, it might be better to stay away and rely on word of mouth, which is the best kind of advertising to do, and often works well. I can think of many successful businesses that don't do the social media thing.

Re: La Torta + A Bit On Social Media
...Plus it seems like a lot of work keeping up with all the social media accounts. It's hard enough work for a non-brewer. Time maybe better spent brewing beer, designing beer and communicating directly with customers. Especially if it has a potential to blow up in your face.
On the other hand, things could blow up on social media even if you didn't have a presence, then you wouldn't have a platform to defend yourself.

Re: La Torta + A Bit On Social Media
Running one takes about the same amount of time as running all of them. You have the ability to post on all at the same time, if you're using it as a marketing platform.GuingesRock wrote:...Plus it seems like a lot of work keeping up with all the social media accounts. Responding to customers is a different story - but then again, if you're concerned with the amount of time you're spending responding to customers on social media, you're probably doing things right.

Re: La Torta + Discussion On Social Media Advertising
For me as a consumer, it's all about customer engagement. If I tweet a brewpub to see what they have on tap, and they reply within an hour, I'm probably going to stop by later for a pint.
That being said, many times I've seen small business owners feeding the trolls online. That leads to no good. Use social media for customer engagement, not to deal with haters (unless they have a legitimate complaint).

Good points, but if you phone the brewery, you get an answer right away, and not a maybe get back to you in an hour or two.

Interesting - I see they opened a twitter account today. Looks like they are serving both Bad Apple and Unfiltered. Good stuff!
