Interesting post I came across this on the East Hants Wants To Know facebook group. Really hoping they can get the support to make this happen. Anyone know/hear anything more about this?

Parker Noonan wrote:For anyone who received a notice of a plebiscite in Milford Station. It is concerning a micro brewery we intend to open on our farm.We are unable to do this in Milford because it is still considered a dry community and has been since the days of Prohibition. This means liquor can not be made or sold there. If this plebiscite passes Milford could see a microbrewery and possibly a vineyard. We would be growing hops on are farm and possibly grapes. We will be trying to get other farmers to grow other grains and hops as well as they are in demand and are currently in short supply. We in-vision a new industry that compliments the area that is made up mostly of dairy farms. This would open up new opportunities for young farmers who are trying to find a way into farming. We only have to look at what the industry has done for Wolfville to see what happens when people work together to make things happen. They have a thriving agritourism industry and Milford could as well. Milford is a unique hamlet that we love as is . We feel this would add to its charm while preserving its farming history. If you received a voters card or have questions , please message me and I will anwser your question. Thanks

I had no idea that Milford was a dry community -- interesting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Milford Station isn't a village and doesn't have a council. Not sure how it could have any special rules/bylaws that don't apply to every other East Hants community that doesn't have its own administrative structure. 100 ways I could be wrong about that, but I would consult with the Municipality.

Not sure. I don't know much about the place even though it isn't that far from me. Our MLA has commented on the post and seems to be supportive. There has to be some sort of bylaw or something. Interesting point though.

I'm rooting for the guy though! :)

Must be true at some level, found this in the East Hants minutes:
Micro-Brewery Plebiscite
C14(260)
November
On the motion of Councillors Roulston and John A. MacDonald:
Moved that Council request the Chief Electoral Officer conduct a plebiscite on the
question of the sale of liquor in the area of the Municipality of East Hants as
provided for in Section 43 of the Liquor Control Act in order that all residents of
the area who are eligible to vote are given an opportunity to participate in the
decision-making process.
MacDonald
MOTION CARRIED
Note: The areas potentially affected by the plebiscite are Milford and Walton.
Just wonder where/who enforces the status of so-called dry communities? NS Liquor Control Act? Or local government? More digging required.

Maybe he meant locally grown hops and barley isn't current enough to go around?
