I had a small growler of the Fist of God in Halifax last weekend. Really enjoyed it! I bought another growler and brought it back home to Newfoundland with me. Beautiful beer!

Any new goodness on tap for tomorrow? My wife's in town on course and I snuck my growler in her luggage. I imagine the FLR is gone by now?

NASH wrote:Most of you here probably already know this but I often see online banter and discussion about IBUs in beer; there's no way beer A is xx IBU, or beer C has got to to be more than xx IBU etc. The fact of the matter is the measurement is that of isomerized alpha acids in solution and nothing more. That number is plugged into an equation to translate to an IBU number. It really means NOTHING of how you, your neighbour or industry professionals perceive bitterness in a given beer. Those days are gone with an older style of brewing (for lack of a better term).

The majority of beers I make @ Unfiltered Brewing are calculated to a minimum of 150 IBU, most are well above 200. And none of my calculations include flame-out or whirlpool hop additions. Therefore, and because they actually are, I label all these beers 100+ IBU knowing full well human perception levels and the saturation point of iso-alpha acid in wort and beer are slightly above 100. No matter how one perceives these beers, they do indeed contain these levels of iso-alpha acids and the numbers I publish aren't meant as scare tactics or to impress. I've had most of my beers analyzed for various parameters in a lab in QC, multiple times, and guess what? Most (ALL in the DIPA range) are indeed above 100 IBU, the highest result coming back being 113. Which beer was it? - Flat Black Jesus Stout. That's right. Next in line downward is Zion. And as a point of reference Exile On North St IPA is pegged at 97 IBU. I don't label Exile that because it's calculated to around 70, that, and if I call it 97 IBU y'all will probably think I'm crazy.

You may soon see me drop IBU numbers from our beer listings altogether. We'll see. </END RANT>

:cheers2:
I'm most interested of late in how that simmer you do for DOA affects perceived bitterness.

It was indeed pleasant to tip a couple back with you Mr. MacNeil. Epic weather for an epic ride and some epic beer. Fvcking construction traffic getting out of city was epic too - but not good epic. I'm happy to have added to my education attending Mr. Nash's Charm School and hope to get back soon. Another notch for my mash paddle.

Tap takeover at Hopyard in PEI! Ticketed event tonight with beers and 4 course dinner included, then it opens up for a free-for-all at the taps. Well okay, not free!

We've got 15 different beers with a couple new ones in the mix. The food is always outstanding at Hopyard, but today and tomorrow it may show signs of having more smoke, spice and beer involved

Should be a blast :cheers2:

PS: Flat Black Jesus stout drops Friday @ noon at the brewery and pub for pints, growlers and kegs!

Cans available now, bitches!

Exile On North St IPA
Twelve Years To Zion DIPA
Double Orange Ale DIPA
Flat Black Jesus Stout

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm also selling west coast hop pellets!!

A shitload of Columbus and Centennial, smaller amounts of Amarillo, Simcoe and Citra. pricing varies on variety but it's basically at my contract cost/pricing, plus a tiny lil' bit I pay to have them shipped to me by the skid. Prefer to sell by the 5 kg increment as that's how they come to me packaged.

These are in Halifax at the brewery and available now.

Get in touch if any of you are looking, or if there's a lot of interest I might start a dedicated thread for "group buys" or some shit.

That'd be great!

I will do more cans but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get another run in before Xmas. It's a challenge for us, infastructure isn't really there but we'll keep punching 'em out as we can :cheers2:

Might be best to have some set aside or with Sandy in case we don't get more done. Our dissolved O2 content is super, super low and my product will hold fresh a lot longer than you'd imagine or expect. Something to do with uber-sanitation, extremely high hopping rates and proper PH levels lead to extreme stability. :chug:

Fire one or two aside for Cornellus. I'll buy them and if he doesn't want them I will have a few beer for me.
