Hi All,

Just about to keg my second ever brew and I'm not 100% sure that my keg is air tight. I had Dave at Everwood give both my kegs a once over and everything looked good, however when I went to keg the first batch the co2 was leaking somewhere from the lid. I switched the lids and it sealed fine, I just ran some co2 through my second keg and can't find or feel any air leaks. Just wondering if anyone has an easy way to solve these keg problems before I go to keg. Just try and run sanitizer through the lines first ?

Put the lid on but leave the handle up. Set your pressure to 20 psi and then lift the whole thing by the lid handle. That will seat the lid for you 99%of the time

Have you ever had a leak from around the pressure release valve ? That's where it felt like it was coming from but soapy water wasn't showing anything.

I haven't had a leak from the valve but I'm sure it could happen

I usually do similar to trevor, except I just wiggle the ha dle slightly while pulling it up until it seals tight. Maybe I'll try lifting it next time

I've had relief's leak. I find the plastic style ones especially bad. Usually leak where they thread in to the lid. The other type leak less often in my experience.

Stupid question are you sure that your relief valve is seated properly? So its flush against the bottom of the valve?

Yes that was the first thing I checked, seems to be seated pretty well

My kegs are old. All were used when I bought most of them 10 years ago. I bought some relief valves as spares awhile ago. The old ones are really rough looking. I have had to replace only one so far. Yea, you have to screw around with the lid to get it to seal right. I have noticed that my used kegs have small marks around the top edge of the kegs. I gather the employees who originally filled these with pop weren't too careful with the top edge.

Turns out I just had to up the psi to 30 or so and give a good pull on the lid before she would seal up. Thanks for the help all!! On that note I have a 3-way co2 manifold with a dual regulator, when bumping up my psi a significant amount is it best to close the other lines I have beer hooked up to or will it not affect the beer? This isn't for long periods of time just to keg my keg to seal.

yeah i would disconnect from the other kegs or use their shutoffs. otherwise you will inflate the other kegs to 30psi too, and depending how low those kegs are, you ccould seriously over carb them. alternatively, a bit more wasteful, just pull up the relief valve after youve dropped the psi down to serving pressure.
