New BJCP Guidelines?

Came across this, fairly well written critique/commentary on the draft version of the 2014 BJCP guidelines.

I'm in no way really all that familiar with the previous guidelines, other than a very high level appreciation. I know others on here are much more in tune with the previous, and I assume the proposed draft versions. So let's hear your thoughts!

From reading the above.. it sounds fairly messy, and weird. The regional grouping seems like a stand out 'issue'.. ?

I gotta admit, bit surprised nobody has commented on this? Just too new.. or too complicated to be worth 'figuring out' (I'm a bit of the latter.. just keep making beer I like, not too concerned with BJCP styles). But I am curious..

I don't know the 2008 guidelines well enough to comment on the 2014. However I do like that they are recognizing new styles.

To start, I'm glad that it's being updated, and I'm glad to see that they're recognizing some new (and old!) styles. Beyond that though, I didn't know that the draft was even out yet. I have a lot of reading to do before I can really say anything else.

Haven't had a chance to look at 2014, this was first I heard of them. When I am sitting on a comp I'll take a look

First time I've seen the draft. It seems like a lot more to memorize (if I had to take the test going forward), but as a judge, I like the inclusion of new/old styles, and the grouping of styles has broken some connections, but created others, so I'm OK with it. I doubt these'll be used in competition before 2015.
