Hey Everyone,

Is anyone heading to Meander then coming by the store tomorrow? If so I'd like to place an order with you for a growler as I won't be able to make it.

Thanks

Dave

I'm going tomorrow so can pick up whatever anyone wants and drop off in Sackville and Halifax or you can get it from me in Halifax. Post here which you want and how many or e-mail me.

Kyle - I'd love a growler of their pale. If you are willing to drop off in Sackville, even better! Thanks!

Kyle,
Like Derek if you are heading through Sackville and it isn't too much trouble I'd like a Growler of the Pale as well. :cheers2:

I will be there tomorrow morning. :D Then down to Bad Apple. And maybe Sea Level. Any suggestions about where to eat between Windsor and Berwick?

Cheers
Frank

Frank, if memory serves me right. Untion St Café would be a nice spot to stop for a bite to eat. Been a couple years since I been there, but really enjoyed it the few times I've been. Also stock up on BAB beers. Get the DIPA and APA if Jeff has them available. Tasty brews!

Union Street has a nice brunch buffet. Not expensive. Also if you are thinking of going to Sea Level, it looks like a great day to go to the Port Pub which is attached to Sea Level and could sit outside on the river and have lunch.

So - How was the beer?

The beer was... sold out!

I managed to have a small sample from a pitcher. They were only selling it in their own "growlers", would not fill others (I was told it was an opening-day only rule), so did not buy any for myself.
I found it quite bitter, and a bit oversparged (grainy/husky character), but that could be me being overly critical.
Unfortunately, I believe we'll have to wait 2-3 weeks before trying it again, as there was no beer in the fermenters or conditioning.

What style was it supposed to be?

Right at the cusp of Pale Ale/IPA. I believe 6.5%, 55IBUs.

I was there early and grabbed a couple of growlers. I thought the beer was okay, but I also found the bitterness had a certain slight unpleasentness to it. Also found the beer undercarbonated. I couldn't put my finger on the something else that was a little 'odd' about it, but the oversparging kind of makes sense. I'll file it under 'drinkable, but needs a little work'.

It probably is my closest beer source so I'll definitely be back when there's a new batch.

I probably came off as more negative than intended. I will certainly try it again, and am pleased that there's another new player in the province.

Oh, likewise. It's not perfect, but they even admit it's a work in progress :)

I personally think a few too many of the new breweries opening up are a 'work in progress'. There are very few businesses a person can open and not have the product fully developed on the first day.

Anyway, always good to have more good breweries around. Hopefully they sort out their minor issues quickly.

There's no reason for any brewery in this province to be a work in progress when it comes to the quality of their product on opening day. As experienced as I might be as a homebrewer, if the day comes where I open my own brewery, it will be with experienced professional oversight. There's just no excuse for anything less. And maybe they did this...but if you guys are giving the beer a technical meh...
