Rum Barrel-aged Baltic Porter

Post by PEIBeerGuy » Wed Jan 08, 2014 12:02 am

I saw that Garrison released this recently, but only found out on Untappd. What's the deal... anyone else on here try it? Thoughts? Reviews seem good. I'd like to snag at least a couple or three bottles.

I bought a couple of bottles, but haven't had a chance to drink one yet. You want I should pick up some bottles for you, yes?

From some joker's blog: http://atlanticcanadabeerblog.wordpress ... -20131227/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

• Garrison Brewing has released a special beer, almost a year in the making: they aged their Grand Baltic Porter in rum barrels from Ironworks Distillery in Lunenburg, NS for ten months. This is a very limited brew, with only 417 bottles available. This beer weighs in at 11% ABV, definitely picking up some tasty rum from the barrel (their regular Grand Baltic Porter is 9%). Tracy Phillipi of Garrison was kind enough to provide us with tasting notes: “With aromas of cherries & caramel, this ruby-brown specialty brew is balanced by flavor notes of coffee, smoke & leather. Not for the faint of heart, Barrel Aged Grand Baltic Porter leaves a dry warming sensation on your palate”. This beer is only available at the brewery, so pop down soon to grab a bottle.

Chris, would it be possible for you to pick up 3 bottles of this for me? If so, Jon can bring them home with him when he goes down there.

Word of warning. Garrison claims everything they make is awesome. History has proven this incorrect.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

True enough. Still, chalmers, I'd take two for sure... heck, let's say three (so I can trade one). Also, if any spruce ale is still around, I'd take two of them as well. I'll also message Hogie and Aaron to see if they want in on this.

True and I find their dark brews very hit or miss.

It's the higher alcohol brews for me. My experience on too many occasions is that they are way under attenuated, almost undrinkable. Maybe this one will be different...

Agreed - I've had 7% (baltic porter maybe?) that was more overpowering than a 10% brew

Keith: I'm gonna get you two Rum Barrels, and put together a care package with the BAB beer. I think someone out your way will be able to hook you up. :)

Last chance for romance, heading down there in 2 hours!

Keith, finally got the price figured out, $11.95 each.

Thanks for cracking one of them open on Tuesday, I write enjoyed the barrel character from this. Definitely different than the Bourbon or Single Malt whiskey barrel beers I've had recently.
