Ah pied du cochon not for drinking but for eating! And swarzts on st Laurent get a medium with slaw there will be a wait. Trios brasseur on st Catherine or in the old port for a decent pint and some cool little flan like pizzas

Vice et Versa is a great pub! Also check out the new brewpub from Hopfenstark and Beneluxe is great!

No shortage of great spots in Montréal!

I'm headed to Montréal on Sunday for three days. I checked out the beer menu for the St Bock. Impressive, they actually have a Gueuze on tap today!! Does anyone know of a place that sells Russian River beer or Jolly Pumpkin? Any format will do (ie: stores that sell take home bottles, or pubs). I've been really curious to try some of these.

You'll have a hard time finding any bottle shops with beer from outside Quebec in Montreal (or Quebec, I believe). So hard, that I'm not aware of any.

But don't let me discourage you, hopefully someone has better info than I!

Oh, and we'll be headed there in June, so please report back on your findings. I've created a map of all the places mentioned above, and looks like we'll be able to hit a few.

Besides Au Pied de Cochon and Joe Beef (have my reservations for them already) and Schwartz's, any other restaurant suggestions?

A friend recommended this place (http://www.thebiermarkt.com/bier.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). They list some Goose Island brett beers, a few gueuze's as well as tons of 'regular' beers.

I haven't looked too much for good food, although I heard some amazing things about the two you listed. I'll settle for beans and wieners if I can find some good wild beers.

Quebec is really good at getting beer made in Quebec on store shelves, not so much in getting imports, especially US imports. Highly unlikely you'll find Russian River or Jolly Pumpkin in a store anywhere in Canada. However, very occasionally I've heard of their stuff being on guest taps at Dieu de Ciel (Jolly Pumpkin anyway) so if you time it right, possibly.

I was in Montreal all last week. The only place I got to visit with decent beer was Bier Markt on Rene Levesque. I believe this building used to be the Queue de Cheval, a high end steak house. You can see the Bell Centre out the front window.

The selection was overwhelming for a one time visit. There were a lot of "filler" beers to bolster the numbers (I didn't order the Labatt 50) but quite a few decent ones. I only sampled from the taps while there. My favorite was Le Castor Yakima IPA and Rodenbach Flanders Red Ale. I had four beers plus a meal and it was less than $50.

An added bonus was $1 oysters from 5-7 pm. I had the Moule et Frites for the main and that was pretty good too.

I had Duck in a Can at Au Pied de Cochon... UNREAL!!! When you're looking for the place, there isn't a sign so make sure you know the street address. Though when we went, it was by far and away the busiest place in the immediate area.

Didn't get to try Joe Beef yet but definitely jealous you're hitting up both! I'm sure the beer festival will be ok too... haha

Beer festival is truly epic.. tough one to beat I think (in Canada for sure, maybe North America). Luckily, the time I went it was Grand Prix AND Mondiale the same weekend!

Here are my favourites from the trip.

Had a big plate with 4 different curries + naan + rice and a pint of kingfisher for $17. An Indian college said it was the closest to real northern indian food that he had tried in Canada. It is in a somewhat sketchy neighbourhood, but the food is worth it.

Agreed...horrible beer.

I went to one of the ones in Toronto and it was crap. They seem to be a reasonable sized chain for fake craft beer drinkers haha.

How's the beer at Le Réservoir? Heading to Montreal in July and have fond memories of it.

Dieu de Ciel. Corner Laurier and Clarke is the can't miss for beer. Also Benelux at Jeanne Mance and Sherbrooke. Le Cheval Blanc on Ontario. Amere a Boire. All are brewpubs. Also Vice et Versa for tap list of Quebec micros.
