Dieu Du Ciel Fail?

Just tried Dieu Du Ciel's raspberry sour. I am relatively new to sours, but my impression was that this was surprisingly one dimensional for a brewery that I generally rave about. To be completely honest, it tasted like sour carbonated Ocean Spray. We drank this just after a bottle of Duchesse De Bourgogne. No contest.
On the other hand, 82 people say I am an idiot: '

I recall it tasting very, very young and tannic. I am sitting on the other three bottles I bought to see how it develops.

I'm surprised you could finish the Duchesne, I couldn't.

I have had the Duchess twice. Liked it both times, but this time it seemed a bit heavy on acetic acid. I don't remember this last time. Interestingly, we had two relative newbies to beer over (from India). Both wine drinkers. We had a wide beer tasting over the evening, and they both picked the Duchess as their favourite.

I found it so sweet I could hardly drink it.

Huh. Bottle to bottle variation and age, I guess.

No, it's the back sweetening that I find gross, like Lindeman's....

Gotcha.
I still think it's delicious.

Had a sample of the DDC brew in July. Must say it was pure, natural raspberry delight. Great beer. Got Chalmers to pick up six for Hogie & I at Premier.

Keep in mind that the DDC is a Berliner Weiss as opposed to a Belgian Sour. Very different beast. Much more lactic, little to no Brettanomyces funk. The "Landscape of Sour Ales" on this page:
http://web.archive.org/web/201004100251 ... dale.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; underplays the differences (Schultheiss in the upper left corner) as they're more sour than Liefman's. You can count me in the love it category, and I'd only put the bottles a slight notch below the version I had at the brewpub several years ago.

I had one a while back, not really my style of choice but I thought it was
very well-done

Interesting. I completely missed the fact that it's a Berliner... I feel like it doesn't mention that on the bottle at all, but I could be wrong. So when I drank it expecting a framboise, it was not that. I'll try another bottle soon, keeping that in mind.
