NB Liquor Private Order

Post by CurtisD » Wed Feb 13, 2013 3:13 pm

Has anyone had any luck doing one of these? I'd love to get some Ontario or west coast craft brews (Flying Monkeys, Muskoka, Beau's, Central City, etc.).

Knowing up front that I would need to round up enough friends to share 240 bottles with, I am wondering if it is price prohibitive (I don't want to be spending $6 for a 341ml beer when buying in that quantity) and whether the process is worth the headache.

I am in Halifax often enough that I can stock up at Garrison and Propeller, which is great, and I do enjoy the offerings of Premier, but Premier generally stocks imports rather than Canadian brews.

Thoughts?

I've done something similar here in NS. We don't have any minimum requirement (well, 1 case), so it's a bit more reasonable than needing to bring in 240 bottles. However all of these order go through one fellow, which means he is frequently overwhelmed and takes a long time to get pricing and availability.

Here, I've only ever had luck bringing in beers carried by the LCBO, BCLC and the SAQ, as long as they are not discontinued and not already carried/have been/plan to be carried by the NSLC and private stores.

I can give you more hints in a PM, if you'd like.

Well, just to update I've inquired about ordering a case of Founders Centennial IPA. I'll let the group know how I make out....if successful I'm more than happy to split the case with anyone who wants a couple.

Definitely!

I read conflicting info on their website, one section saying 10 x 24 bottles is a minimum order, the other saying 1 case. If you really have to order 240 bottles, they might as well not even offer the service to the general public!

When I was talking to Marky at the Laundromat, I remember him telling me that he only needs to order one case to bring something in.

Definitely one case in NB, as in NS.

I'm guessing you didn't see this? viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4505" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Curtis: I've got an extra 18 bottles of founders centennial ipa. I'm at Parlee for the weekend and have them with me if you want any. PM me for details if you're interested.

Rob, if you happen to meet up with Curtis this weekend I would happily take a six pack of the Founders off of you. If so, I could just EMT you the money. And of course, this is if Curtis doesn't mind holding onto them for me for a little bit.

I'll also throw out there that nb liquor will order single cases of stuff from other jurisdictions.

You can also order multiple cases, and have them sent to different stores throughout the province. People can pay for the individual cases at each location. Pretty slick arrangement! Eg. In my last order, I got 5 cases of the founders ipa, and had set up to send 1 to York st in Fton, and 4 of them to sackville.

Sweet, that's really good to know. How long did it take you to bring in the order?

No, didn't see that thread actually! You are correct, and I did get confirmation that minimum order is 1 case. Pricing was quite reasonable at $2.56/bottle.

RobD - PM sent!

Good to know, I will likely find something else to order. Was thinking about the Nickel Brook Naughty Neighbour Pale Ale.

Tried to send you a PM, seems to be stuck in my "outbox". Anyway, no problem to hang on to some bottles for you....I am easy enough to find when you are passing through Moncton.

Cheers!

I'd be into this, plus I have a way to get the stuff here. We could have my brother receive it and bring on one of his regular trips.

Re: NB Liquor Private Order

There's a few of us from the Saint John area that are interested in a private order, so I'm going to place one this week for us here. I was speaking to Shelley at ANBL in Fredericton today and she was unbelievably helpful. Seems like a very straight forward process. This is the email that she sent me regarding the process.

Hi Shane

We do offer a special order service for products not listed at ANBL. For your convenience, I am attaching the details below:

ANBL provides a special order service that allows customers to purchase product that is not sold in New Brunswick. If you wish to pursue a request, please visit your local liquor store indicating that you wish to place a special order request. At that time, store staff will capture as much information as possible about the brand, and accept a $25 initiation fee. If ANBL is unable to source your special order the $25 will be refunded in full. If the product has been sourced and you decide not to proceed, the $25.00 is not refundable.

Should the supplier be willing to ship the product, we will acquire pricing information from them and calculate a retail price for you. If you are comfortable with the price, we will then accept a $25 per case deposit and will issue a purchase order on your behalf. The initiation fee of $25 will be applied to the case deposit fee. Deposit fees are credited towards the total cost of the order.

The Minimum order requirement for wines and spirits sourced within Canada is 1 case x 12 bottles. Product sourced outside of Canada requires a 5 case minimum order. All beer and coolers, regardless of source requires 10 case x 24 bottle minimum requirement (outside of Canada). Depending upon the source, special orders can take a minimum of six weeks to a maximum of six months to arrive.

The Mad Tom IPA and Red Racer are sourced from local jurisdictions (LCBO and SAQ) and usually arrive in approximately 3 weeks and only require one case minimum order. When I receive the complete list, I can give you a better idea about the other timelines. Also, I you don’t approve the price, you are not obligated to order the product.

Thanks

Yeah, the woman I was corresponding with was also very helpful. I didn't have time to place an order before tomorrow when they submit their next order with the LCBO, but plan to soon.

Probably Nickel Brook Naughty Neighbour. I read elsewhere that more Founders is on the way to the LCBO, definitely hoping for some Breakfast Stout.

This thread has been quiet because my wife went ahead and ordered me a case of Founders Centennial IPA after seeing me really enjoy the ones I got from RobD. Anyway, I wasn't about to place another order for something that should (a) be consumed fresh and (b) I hadn't personally seen how the experience would go at my local ANBL store. Anyway, my wife confirmed that Shelley and Ella were great to deal with, so I am keeping my eyes open for when Breakfast Stout hits the LCBO. I don't mind ordering multiple cases if some other local Brewnosers commit to taking some off my hands (at cost). I will start a thread in the Group Buys forum when that happens.

I'm loving the centennial IPA as well, it's great stuff :cheers3:
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
