Special B Malt

Post by homebrewcrew » Sun Jun 17, 2012 8:44 am

Was thinking about making this red:
5 lb vienna
2 lb light munich
1 lb special B
8 oz honey malt

1 oz wilamette 60 min
1 tsp irish moss 15 min

Now I looked up some information on the special B and people say its something like to crystal 120 or dark crystal but nothing is a lot like this malt. Does anyone know if noble grape sells this malt?

NG might have some. Call them. NCM was recommending Caramunich 120. Nothing is ever the same, but it's better than nothing I guess.

I think somebody has picked up the trademark. Castle, Dingemans's maybe....

I get mine from either Brewer's Pantry in Whitby or Canadian Home Brew Supplies in Toronto. They are roughly the same price, with the stuff from BP being a few cents cheaper per pound.

Hope this helps.

I have a friend in Montreal is a sales rep for Weyermans. Would you guys like a product sheet from her?

Also...the guys at the Burnside Noble Grape told me that they have stopped carrying it. If you get stuck, PM me. I'm sure that I could spare a pound or so.

I haven't looked at the catalogue lately but isn't the Briess Special Roast (or Extra Special Roast) similar to Special B? We got one of those Briess on one of the NCM orders I think.
