Re: Pubs/Beer in Ottawa
I've been here: www.pubitalia.ca they have a good selection.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

If you're into whisky, I'd try The Highlander Pub.
As for BrewPubs, there's The Clock Tower - they have 3 locatons, but I know nothing about the quality of their beer.

The Clock Tower is an enjoyable experience. I generally prefer to eat there over other pubs in "the Market" area because of their beer.
I have heard the Manx Pub is a good spot as well.

I've been generally unimpressed with the beer quality at the Clocktower. The Manx is a nice place, and they generally have a couple of good Ontario taps and good food. Pub Italia has a nice draught list and a wide if expensive selection of bottles. There's a brewpub in Hull called Les Brasseurs du Temps with some more adventurous beers, which were fairly good when I visited.

Pub Italia is also great.

I know Pub Italia had some Westy 12 just before Christmas (FYI, depending on how you feel about it being sold there..). The prices were kind of exorbitant, though.JEH wrote:Hey guys, i'm heading to Ottawa for the weekend. I assume you found out about that on BA, that's where I heard about it. I think I was the only person who wasn't terribly gung-ho about that, and posted my thoughts (I'm cjbmcdon on there). I don't care if P.I. paid their LCBO dues, did it all legally, etc, my point is that the monks are getting ~$3/bottle, and Pub Italia is selling it for $35/bottle. I know PI is not making up all of that difference, but when the monks say specifically that the beer is not to be resold, that's what pisses me off.vgoreham wrote:

You're right. I just basically lurk on BA but I don't necessarily disagree with you. I'll get some Westy 12 one day, and I'll be buying it from the monks when I do. It's more of an adventure that way, anyways.chalmers wrote:I assume you found out about that on BA, that's where I heard about it.
