Chicago Beer Haul

Post by chalmers » Mon Dec 13, 2010 6:01 pm

For the past two weeks, I have been stuck in Chicago for work. And all I got was this lousy beer haul. Enjoy!
All of them were full, except the Mikkeller Chipotle Porter, which I drank at a bar.
In total, 28 beers (duplicates not shown in the picture), weighing about 100 lbs, accompanied me home. I actually bought new suitcases while in the US*, and this was a good first test for them. I'm sure the TSA had a laugh when they opened the bags (which they did, I got the "note").

That fluorescent orange piece of plastic is the 4-pack holder for cans. Less dead seals, I guess.

*On the way down there, I had a bottle of Nash's Smoked Porter break in my bag, so that was the straw that broke the camel's back and pushed me to get a new set. They were at the end of their lifetime.

I went to 3Floyds during a snow storm last weekend, and had an awesome time hanging with the bartenders and asst. brewers. Those are the bombers on the lower left and the Gumballhead above them. Plus they brewed the Dark Lord (green wax in the middle), which is a one-day-a-year release, that I managed to trade for while in Chicago. I was happy to get the Stone/Nogne O/Jolly Pumpkin collab., which was the subject of "Stone Skips Across the Pond" http://vimeo.com/channels/ssatp.
The Goose Island Barrel Aged Bourbon County Brand Stout Vanilla was another special beer small release I was able to find, as well as the NightStalker from GI. They have a Belgian series which is also pretty good.
The Sierra Nevada Tumbler was my session beer while I was down there, so good, full flavour with roast taste and aroma.
I got the EPIC beer (from NZ) because I heard them on the Brewing Network, as well as on Brew Masters with DFH.

Good times!
