http://news.nationalpost.com/2010/12/06 ... w-traffic/Weather, collisions and heavy traffic volume get most of the blame for the GTA’s highway gridlock.
Starting Tuesday evening, some of the fault can be placed on beer.
A convoy of 20 police cruisers will guide trucks transporting six large vats from Hamilton’s Port Authority to Molson Canada’s Toronto brewery near Pearson Airport.
The imported German vats — which will be used by Molson in the fermentation process — are 150 feet long, 24 feet wide and 25 feet high, requiring a police convoy that includes officers from Halton, Peel, Hamilton, Toronto and the OPP.
“It’s a very unique situation having different police forces coming together for something like this,” said Sergeant Jim Valade of the Halton Regional Police, who is co-ordinating the process. “It is a unique project in the sense that it requires this kind of manpower and the co-operation of different forces.”
Molson is getting rid of two older vats in advance of the new arrivals.
“We know it’s quite the process to do it,” said Adam Moffat, director of external communications for Molson Coors Canada. “It’s a fairly big move for us in increasing our capacity in our Toronto brewery.”
The convoy will leave Hamilton’s Port Authority at 9 p.m., traveling east along Highway 5 and is expected to arrive at Dundas Street and Kerns Road around 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. The journey will break for the day and pick up again at 9 p.m. Wednesday night. Several main roads through Halton and Peel regions will be used in the second leg of the journey.
Halton Regional Police said motorists should expect delays along Highway 5 on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. They also said there could be potential traffic delays Wednesday night and early Thursday morning along Dundas Street near Appleby Line, and along Derry Road in Peel Region. The vats are expected to arrive at Molson’s Toronto plant sometime early Thursday.

Molson beer vats to slow traffic
I used to think that the sky was the limit. Big business may push that one soon.

What a waste of time and resources! I wouldn't be too happy if my power or phone was cut because some beer vat for some shitty beer couldn't go under it.

I can't believe the cost to do this.
