Wild-hops plants
Postby JMcCallum ยป Tue Jun 14, 2016 2:18 pm
Hello from Charlottetown,
My name is Jason McCallum and I am a hops chemistry researcher.
CBC ran a story on our work last summer, which some of you may have seen:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-ed" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... -1.3136764
We are looking to create a collection of wild-growing hops plants; some will be true wild species native to North America while others are likely European accessions that have escaped cultivation and managed to survive on their own. We started this project last summer, and are looking to expand the collection again this season. Ultimately we would like to evaluate the disease resistance and chemical characteristics of this collection.
We are still looking for wild/feral hops accessions from the Maritimes and are specifically targeting areas in the Annapolis, Hants and Kings counties, as we have not collected anything from this region of NS.
If anyone knows of wild/feral hops plants growing in these areas, please contact me or Aaron Mills, as per our contact information in the CBC story.
Thanks,
Jason
