Too bad. Gotta figure it costs a mint for rent/heat in that spot. Hopefully someone fresh can come in and somehow make it work.

I'll take that facker over, reconfigure the place a bit, add more tanks to have at least 6 house brews, boot all commercial product out, have a 9-item only food menu that changes daily/weekly with local market availability, all cooked with beer, and the name..... Re: Goodbye Hart & Thistle...
H&T wasn't without its faults, perhaps more than some pubs and restaurants, probably less than some. Some of us loved to bitch about those faults, including myself. Regardless, she's gonzo.
I'm really going to miss the extended family, the core of which were there for the duration. Bruce is a really nice guy and did try to do a lot for the Brewnosers and the beer scene in general; hop harvesting, beer dinners, club meets, Superbowl Sundays, Nash Bash, Nash Burgers, Beer Wars screening, lobbying for growler sales and turning me loose and pushing me to experiment and have fun with the system. You really develop a bond (or hatred
) working with folks over that length of time, and you might share a drink or three sometimes too. I'll miss the big open space with all that natural lighting and brewing on that little steam jacketed system. I started brewing on it in 2000. Two incarnations, 14 years and 750 batches later - there it sits, ~1400 L of product in four tanks, in lock-down.
Last time this happened (Nov 2005) the owner called the landlord offering to send in under his remuneration, the Brewmaster. To keg and remove any remaining beer, acid wash and disassemble the system, putting it into suspended animation for the upcoming and undetermined downtime. The landlord agreed. I went in, kegged about 3000 L of beer and wheeled way too much of it up the hill on a dolly to the Split Crow and Peddlers Pub. After a few more days cleaning and readying the system for sleep I collected my pay. Almost four years later the system was brought back to life with 37 Hr Simcoe SMaSH as H&Ts first brew.
Perhaps I'll get a similar call this week

I hope you do get the call, and we'll be ready to help, if needed!
I remember that Hop Harvest well, the Nash Bashes, Nash Burgers (always epic!), Beer Trivia, hosting our BJCP test, and appreciated that he let you run the brewery as you saw fit.

Sad to see it go, I still remember the first Hop Mess I had there, well, kinda!
I'd love to get some of that H&T branded paraphernalia for the store, would look great on my concrete walls!

Re: Goodbye Hart & Thistle...
Sorry to see this happen. This was a great place to hang and Bruce and most definitely Greg, made it well worth while.
We have many great memories of the place, from sunny afternoons enjoying Bruce & Jay, to a winter's bacon-off.
Luckily, you locals still have access to Greg's stuff at the RB, enjoy it while you can, because all things come to an end.

Re: Goodbye Hart & Thistle...
This sucks, though it doesn't come as a complete surprise. My visits during the winter always found the place pretty dead, and I bet there was an extra hit this winter with Stubborn Goat and Stillwell now open. Probably showed up on the books and the bankers decided to call it - even though I suspect some of that hit would have been temporary. I bet that's one of the reasons Rockbottom closed for lunch as well.
Well said Greg. Count me in to push kegs somewhere should that call come...NASH wrote:H&T wasn't without its faults, perhaps more than some pubs and restaurants, probably less than some. Some of us loved to bitch about those faults, including myself. Regardless, she's gonzo.
