Actually, Jeff and his fellow original Brewnosers, on legal advice, intentionally did NOT want to create an official Brewnosers organization, and keeping a buying program separate from the Brewnosers seems to continue to be a good reason.GuingesRock wrote:Would there be any interest in incorporating the Brewnosers as a society, and would it help with this? I don't know how much that would cost, but I incorporated a company once with a Halifax office and it cost $1,200. If it was an option that would enhance the powers of the Brewnosers for this kind of thing, I would chip in $50 - $100.chalmers wrote:Being incorporated as a society (I believe the Brewnosers are not) is another step in the direction of establishing legitimacy.
The idea was that if the Brewnosers has an official existence, it also has liability. If we incorporated a Brewnosers society solely for the purpose of importing beer, then if something happened at (or on the way home from) a Brewnosers event, the directors of the Brewnosers society could be sued. If the event had been advertized here, it would be really hard to prove it was in no way connected to the society.
