Re: NB Liquor Private Order
I'm not here to argue and I apologize if my 1st post is unorthodox... I only posted because I felt strongly about the subject.
And to be honest... I was introduced to this forum TODAY by a "beer geek" friend in Halifax who thought (correctly) that
I might be interested in this discussion.
The Brewers Bash beer sold out in less than an hour in all four locations... I believe that the blame lies directly with the
NBLC for either knowingly or unknowingly disrespecting a product that everyone clearly wanted and treating it like it was
a burden. If the beer had been priced accordingly more people would have been able to purchase it. Maybe this will open
their eyes... hopefully they'll see the value in a wider, better beer selection in the future.

Re: NB Liquor Private Order
I think you're fighting a loosing battle with that line of thinking. Maybe more people would have been able to purchase the beer if resellers didn't go out of their way to grab it all....feel free to argue though. I'm a content whore.

Re: NB Liquor Private Order
While I agree that the ANBL didn't handle this the best, if a commercial operation hadn't snapped up a lot of the product from a couple of the four locations it was available at, a lot of other beer lovers would have gotten a chance to purchase it at a fair price. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for supporting small businesses, I run a company of less than 10 employees, but price gouging at the rate of 450% is sickening.

Re: NB Liquor Private Order
Both sides have merit - people would have been less likely to hoard it if it had been priced differently. Doesn't make it any more ethical but yea

But is the rational:
'l better hoard it and resell it at prices I like, as I don't agree with those prices.'
I don't see merit there. Just greed and contempt.

Re: NB Liquor Private Order
And lets get this straight, the Brewer's Bash beers sold out largely because they were bought out for commercial purposes. I honestly don't think that there is any argument there. So when you have beers that were bought at X amount during that sale and sold for 450% above that cost, yeah it's rather disgusting.Rex Banner wrote:I'm not here to argue and I apologize if my 1st post is unorthodox... Re: NB Liquor Private Order
450% markup is completely ridiculous… Personally I don't see any issue with commercial resellers buying up the stock… I mean ethical, perhaps not, but if they had at least passed the Savings on to their customers by marking it up at a typical/reasonable amount I don't think so many people would be upset.

Myself and jdobbs have been placing private orders quite regularly since Brewer's Bash. We're placing another order on Monday as well. ANBL is trying to get in some Bell's stuff for me but haven't had any luck just yet.

Nice! I'll have to look into it for sure, then... I'd love to have some Red Racer on hand, even if the last thing I need right now is more beer...

Re: NB Liquor Private Order
Curtis, good to know about Shelley not taking orders until after the holidays. I'll probably still send her an email on Monday and she can read it after the holidays. As for the Bells, I'm trying to bring in the Hopslam and Two Hearted Ale. Shelley's been having issues getting a response from them, so I'm not sure where it stand at this point. That would be awesome if she can bring it in.CurtisD wrote:I did Deschutes Black Butte and Rochefort 8 recently....wanted to order Founders Breakfast Stout but got an e-mail from Shelley recently that the LCBO isn't taking private orders until after the holidays....hopefully can still get in on this one.

Re: NB Liquor Private Order
Sure thing Mark. Btw, cases in the eyes of the LCBO are 24 and not 12 packs. The 24 of Mad Tom was $52 and the 24 of Red Racer was $57, just to give you an idea.mcgster wrote:Shane, if you are going to do another private order monday i am in for sure for at least 2 cases and a friend is going to be in as well. Yeah, I happened to look at the Product Price List PDF this morning...I usually scan it every couple of weeks. It's towards the bottom of page 3.berley wrote:I had heard it was coming... but I still don't see it listed?CurtisD wrote:Looks like Red Racer now has a listing at ANBL....473ml cans for $3.65 each.

A couple of other new ones are the Mill Street Coffee Porter, and the Mad & Noisy Hops & Bolts India Pale Lager (I think this is a Creemore/Molson product).

Re: NB Liquor Private Order
That's great news! I've done a private order twice for a flat of RR IPA and the costs work out to be about $2.37 per can. So interesting to see it being $3.65 per can now. Oh well, at least it's going to be readily available now.
EDIT: I just noticed that the cans are 473ml and not the 355ml like I've been getting through the private order. That would explain the price increase.

Re: NB Liquor Private Order
Are the listings in the PDF always made available to the public, or could they be someone's private order?

Re: NB Liquor Private Order
Shane, it's a larger can - 473ml vs 355ml...but still more expensive than buying by the case, of course. For that matter, I wonder if ANBL will still private order this if you want it in that format? EDIT: Didn't see your second post, haha.
I picked up some Delirium Tremens in Dieppe sometime before Christmas, but talking with the staff there they said it pretty much sold out in a matter of days. Anything brought in in limited quantities seems to sell pretty quickly....the Muskoka stuff was gone in a flash, and the Unibroue stuff (La Terrible, etc.) didn't last long either. Even the Garrison seasonals don't seem to linger long. Hopefully the bean counters will figure out that good beer will sell, and dedicate more shelf space to it.
I've seen a few stores now display the domestic tall cans in a rack with some vertical height to it....moving all of the import cans to a similar setup would open up a lot of shelf space.
