I liked the first bottle of it better, reminded me of one of the batches of West Coast Blaster I made that I really enjoyed. Forgot about the bottles in the fridge for a bit, so the hops are starting to fade out. I find that tends to happen faster with red/black IPAs than a standard IPA.mstead wrote:jeffsmith wrote:Having a pint of mstead's West Coast Blaster.

I noticed the same thing during the last part of the keg. It was at its best about 2 weeks after kegging it.jeffsmith wrote:I liked the first bottle of it better, reminded me of one of the batches of West Coast Blaster I made that I really enjoyed. My Berliner Weisse - take 2.
Brewed the same recipe, but used malt as the lacto source rather than a pure pitch. Despite rushing it (I brewed it last Sunday), this version turned out much better than the previous.

Agreed, really enjoyed last night's version.Keith wrote:That was delicious
Just so I remember, the technique was to do your mash, bring it to 185 (or a quick boil), and then incubate the wort with the un-milled pound of acidulated malt and pound of 2-row at 115F overnight-ish?

I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out for a second shot at the style.chalmers wrote:Agreed, really enjoyed last night's version.Keith wrote:That was delicious

The method you listed is pretty much correct:
Did my mash, raised wort to 185, chilled to 110*, added 1lb unmilled acid malt and 1lb 2row to the wort (I placed it in a stainless mesh hop tube that came with my setup), held at 110* for 24hrs (which had dropped it to a pH of 3.2), removed malt and boiled for 15 minutes.

Freshly tapped Watermelon Wheat Ale. Made it with BRY-97 yeast which was my first time using it Went from 1.046 all the way down to 1.004. It could do with a little longer in the keg to mellow some of the esters out and I taste absolutely NO watermelon at all. But I am still happy with it in general.

It's a touch undercarbed still and there's a little EKG detritus floating in it from a fairly heavy dry hop, but I think my SMaSH exchange ESB has turned out alright.

Does Earl's have their own "line" of beer now? Last fall they carried mostly Granville Island stuff.mr x wrote:Earl's Pale Ale in Ft McMurray airport.. Reasonable.

Yeah, Earl's has at least one of their own. Saskatchewan/Saskatoon Brewing company maybe? Saw their kegs there.

Just moved from S'toon... Earls served a locally brewed lineup from Saskatoon Brewery (located right next to them. But they only served in that in S'toon. (mostly mediocre)
