Yes. Actually I've already sold somespickup wrote:Nice. Are the stainless jugs going to be on sale at the brewery?

No you don't, but we can still hang outGAM wrote:I really don't want to clean Greg's Jugs.

Warm them up with regular hot water first. If they are room temp or cold you will split the bottom off it. Had one do this. I also fill in the sink for safety purposes.Brewnoser wrote:A long soak in haven and water. Lots of rinsing after. I wonder how well growler glass can handle boiling water? That stainless will be fine with it.

chalmers wrote:Excellent cleaning instructions! It looks like you'll be refilling on demand, not exchanging with pre-filled ones, correct?
I like that the jug will be sanitized before filling. Not aware of any others that do that. I feel like less than half will/have the gear to even rinse out a growler, if requested.
What are the cleaning tablets referenced on the jug? Again, an awesome step, and one that all breweries should encourage/enforce, yet none do (that in aware of).

Thanks! If you have a bottle brush, I recommend using it to clean bottlesToni wrote:Love the cleaning instructions on the growler. I was recently given a bunch of growlers with some nastiness caked on. I took one look at my bottle brush, then said "no".

CorneliusAlphonse wrote:I mentioned this on twitter, but thought I'd share it here too. My brother has one of the vacuum stainless growlers from a brewery here in BC. We filled it up Saturday morning, then left it in a sealed, sunny car while we hiked/camped a mountain (kings peak if you're interested - probably better done as a day hike with a very light pack, the elev change is 1.8km up over a 7.5 km hike... Then the same in reverse. My legs are wrecked).
Anyway, when we got back to his house on Sunday night and cracked it open, it was at perfect drinking temp for me (maybe 8°? A bit warmer than fridge temp but nowhere near cask temperature). I was a bit skeptical of them because they're likely to be pretty expensive, but this convinced me to get one.

Sounds like just the thing for me to lug Unfiltered beer home with when I'm down visiting.NASH wrote:Yeah these things are just stellar, thanks for posting. The form, fit, and finish are just wicked and they perform. We hope they'll be a lifetime device for most. Yes sir! or head out to the camp or beach filled with iced tea, or hot coffee. They're basically an epic thermos with a wicked handle and easy sealing lid that will handle the pressure of carbonated beverages as well.jeffsmith wrote:Sounds like just the thing for me to lug Unfiltered beer home with when I'm down visiting.NASH wrote:Yeah these things are just stellar, thanks for posting. I recently picked up a couple of milk crates of flip-top bottles at a yard sale. After going through and cleaning those, I'm done with the bottle brush for a while!NASH wrote:Thanks! Thanks Chris. Little things I've been wanting to implement for years, mostly based on common sense are finally coming to fruition![]()
You're right we won't be exchanging or washing growlers. We're in the brewing business not the bottle washing business I like to say. So, we're selling the glass, not charging a deposit on it. Once you buy it, it's yours. And actually we're not washing kegs either, we've jammed a pretty big brewery into a tiny space so it has got to geared for efficient use of real estate.
The Growler Cleaning Tablets are a sodium percarbonate based cleaner (similar to oxi-clean): http://craftmeister.com/growler_cleanin ... ation.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
For sanitation of the growlers we have bottle rinsers that are similar to the waterjet type they use for rinsing glassware in bars (push down with the glass upside-down to activate) but are fed from an inline dosing system for peroxyacetic acid in very low non-rinse concentration to kill the invisible critters. I can't expect the average person to know how to, or have the capability to sanitize their own jugs.
