"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Got out to Stillwell last night with my wife and some friends. Previously I'd only popped in for a quick beer at the bar.

Power outage didn't put a damper on anything, least of all the beer.

The BAB/Stillwell That's Falcon Teamwork is really amazing stuff. A little voice in my head says it's cheating to call it a SMaSH when Falconer's Flight is a hop blend, but that voice can be shut right up by another glass.

Oh, and the Flappy Goldman sandwich is a thing of beauty. The tongue is gorgeous, the kimchee crunch and heat are perfect, and the rye is to die for. I want to know where they got that rye, actually, I've never found a good sandwich rye in Halifax.

A few of us going right at the opening, but probably not staying more than a couple of hours (which means plenty of room for non-ticket-holders).
FYI, LD reminded me that there's a Saint Paddy's Day parade starting at 11, so driving will be screwy, and parking might be a right pain.

Chalmers, can you save me a seat? I'm taking the bus in, not sure what time I'll be getting there, aiming to be as close to opening as I can...
