Propeller makes a point of heat sealing a plastic ring on growlers, presumably to indicate that it was sealed when it left their premises. I don't recall Granite or Garrison doing that. So, Derek, does carting around a Granite or Garrison growler of beer constitute "having open liquor in a public place" while the sealed Propeller growler does not?derek wrote:I can't imagine that's an error, stupid or otherwise. My source believes that the Lunenburg effort has corporate money behind it and a lot will be spent on the building/renovation. The people behind it are cooks/chefs so it will likely be a restaurant/brewpub of some sort.

I had assumed that the shrink wrap was specifically to make it a "sealed" bottle, and therefore make it legal.KMcK wrote: Propeller makes a point of heat sealing a plastic ring on growlers, presumably to indicate that it was sealed when it left their premises. They'd be mostly rumours, because until recently it was just policy to pour those out on the side of the road. It's no longer illegal to have a half-case - I don't know if the legislature actually changed the law, but the courts (in Nova Scotia) struck down the provision that made a part case "open liquor" three or four years ago.CorneliusAlphonse wrote:I've heard rumours of people getting open liquor tickets for carrying around half-empty cases of beer. they've always been third or fourth hand rumours, though...

I don't get the location though - they won't get any foot traffic at all in that part of town. I'm also very surprised they'd allow a brew pub directly beside a hospital. I predict noise complaints in the summer if they have a patio!mr x wrote:There would have to be a lot of money to make that work I think, but it will be a nice place.KMcK wrote:My source believes that the Lunenburg effort has corporate money behind it and a lot will be spent on the building/renovation. I think the old post office would be a nice spot if they fixed it up. Certainly a prime location.

Re: The rumor and random babble thread
That's good, because the alternative is forcing people to consume it all and be super drunk in public. Just like the "please drink and drive" rule on Argyle St, and throughout downtown (Uptown) Saint John.derek wrote:I had assumed that the shrink wrap was specifically to make it a "sealed" bottle, and therefore make it legal.KMcK wrote: Propeller makes a point of heat sealing a plastic ring on growlers, presumably to indicate that it was sealed when it left their premises. There's an article in today's Herald about the Townhouse. Apparently, Kevin O'Keefe is their brewing and tapline consultant....

I spoke to my friend Adam, a real estate agent in Lunenburg, and he said those folks don't even have a building yet for their brewery idea. He is trying to sell them one he thinks is perfect.

Stupid question - where is the second Pump House pub?? I know of the one on Orange Lane, and was aware they have a production brewery somewhere (never been) - is the second restaurant part of the big brewery?mr x wrote:Pump House.

The other restaurant they're referring to I believe is Barnyard BBQ.

That is correct. It's on Mill Road and it's where they brew the bulk of their beer. I think they only brew the seasonals at the Pump House itself.jeffsmith wrote:The other restaurant they're referring to I believe is Barnyard BBQ.

Re: The rumor and random babble thread
Pump House itself meaning the brew pub or at the main brewery? How does the food compare between the two? I usually make a stop there when I'm in town for Sappy Fest. The beer doesn't thrill me that much these days so might as well go to the one with the better grub.

I've heard varying reports about Barnyard BBQ from friends that usually boil down to: if it's busy the quality suffers, a lot.

The Barn Yard is great if you're looking for a really big scoff of food, but as much as I do love it, I'll be honest that it's not the world's best BBQ. However, on a busy weekend it's often easier to get a seat @ the Barnyard than say the Pump House or the other pubs along Main St.

Re: The rumor and random babble thread
The food is completely different. Pump House Brewpub is pizza, burgers, steaks, salads (all decent, in my opinion), while Barnyard has a smoker and they do brisket, ribs, smoked chicken, chile and the like with all the fixins. It's pretty good. Not as good as some other BBQ I've had, but good. I always get the dirty bird (1/4 chicken) with pit beans and jalapeno cornbread.
I find it more kid friendly for lunch then the brewpub. The servers are awesome with my daughter. But the Brewpub tends to have better beer selection, and always the seasonals, since Glen makes them there.
