Re: Antigonish Townhouse
They explained to me today. Something to do with silly regs/inspectors of course. I think it will all work out by the fall.

Aside from the fact that the rules may be silly, you still need to be aware of what you are doing and there are regulations to be followed. Bridge Brewing seems to be going through the same thing.
They finally updated the blog, although they need to start telling people what beer they are selling. It's starting to look like a locavore/organic bistro with a 'brew-pub' as their gimmick....

Re: Antigonish Townhouse
Of course. There are some safety regulations that are common sense. But sometimes there are old regs that no longer apply, or never made sense in the first place. I'm not sure which applies in this case. Either way, I hope they don't abandon the brewpub concept.mr x wrote:Aside from the fact that the rules may be silly, you still need to be aware of what you are doing and there are regulations to be followed. Re: Antigonish Townhouse
From my point of view, it was bad planning to spend money on that system for a number of reasons. The food side looks to have had a lot more thought put into it though. Although I read a comment on the Facebook page from some dumb-ass who was shocked that the menu was so small. Fucking moron, lol. I like the look of it, and hope to get down before too long.

Re: Antigonish Townhouse
Stopped at Townhouse tonight. Obviously not brewing yet, but they've got a good start with the food. The Steak and Ale pie was tasty, but it was the little side of pickled vegetables that set it apart. My brother had bangers and mash and said the sausages were fantastic and the mash just kept getting better as he eat.
And the beer list is pretty good even without their own stuff. Granite Stout and Peculiar, Propeller Bitter and IPA, Garrison Red and Hopyard, Pump House Cadian and Lager. Also had Propeller, Garrison, Hell Bay, Picaroons, and Mill Street bottles. The student crowd might not be into the prices, but professors will like this place.

I do like to stop at the Dock pub in New Glasgow, and at Vy's (Vie's?) for pie.
Last time I went via Jost and Pictou and stopped in a very nice little pub on the Pictou waterfront http://www.carvers.ca/coffeehouse/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; that had Garrison and/or Propeller on tap. You could just see the Hector from the deck. Loved it. Good homemade food.

Do you like the Dock? Building is nice, but I haven't been there in years....

Re: Antigonish Townhouse
In truth I didn't go there last year, but in the past I've had decent pub food there. They only ever had 1 or 2 craft beers tho. It is a terrific building. Quite the rooftop patio too.mr x wrote:Do you like the Dock? Building is nice, but I haven't been there in years....

I was there two weeks ago... the Dock burger was tasty, and I went through the Rickards lineup (not blonde though). Something tells me there was Picaroons to be had, but don't quote me on that.mr x wrote:Do you like the Dock? Building is nice, but I haven't been there in years....
I love their rooftop patio, but haven't been up there yet this year
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Re: Antigonish Townhouse
I think that's what the hours on the door said. FB page seems to say they're closed on Tuesdays as well, so definitely call ahead. And as a point of comparison, I'd rate my meal at Townhouse as better than at Gabrieau's on my return trip, and I thought Gabrieau's was quite good.mr x wrote:Check the hours of operation, they're closed Mondays (I think).

Re: Antigonish Townhouse
Well, it's like this. The mussels were quite good - at $13, a bit pricey. Probably needed another .5 - 1lb for my liking. But split between me and Shelley, they were filling with bread. Shelley compared the salad to a spinich salad from the Mug and Anchor she had a few days ago. For $2 more, this was far superior, and she couldn't finish it. The pie was very hot and loaded with meat, but, it seemed like the meat wasn't browned first, and there wasn't any onions, which I thought really could have made the flavour much better. As it was, it had a good amount of carrots, potatoes, mushrooms, and celery. Dessert was good for $6. Kevin's stout was also good, but I like it better at the Lion's head for some reason. I tried the PH lager as well. It's described as naturally carbed, which I though was odd for kegs. At any rate, one was enough for this lifetime.

One other thing. There's no AC, fans or ventilation that I could see - or feel. Made for a real warm and muggy evening once the place filled up. Kitchen seemed a bit slow with food as well once the place got busy. But a good experience overall.
