lol, I wish. The plan is to buy it next time full of gear, lmfao....seriously though, I have no idea what's going to be done with the building, but I will keep my ears to the ground.Jimmy wrote:How much did you get it for?

If, like me, you had no idea where Nyanza was, it is located right on the Cabot Trail. That would be a perfect spot for a brewpub. Too bad you can't tell when they had registered, to see if this was a current effort, or something that died on the vine.

I haven't heard about anything in Nyanza but apparently someone is trying to start something on Cape Breton. I think it was around Mabou though. I'll have to ask my brother if he has heard more about this.

The Kilted Moose Farmhouse Brewery
“The Kilted Moose Farmhouse Brewery will be an 800 litre organically certified craft brewery dedicated to providing high quality, full-flavoured, drinkable, traditional style ales to the Nova Scotia market. Brewery dinners will be offered on the second floor of our brewery, thus pairing locally sourced food ingredients with locally produced craft beer. We will sustainably, and organically, create signature craft brewed ales, sourcing ingredients (berries, rose hips, honey, potatoes, pumpkin etc) as locally as is feasibly possible. We will not pasteurize or filter our beers. Brewery effluent will be used in irrigation of the farm’s produceand pasture. We will expand our hop production and encourage hop growing in the region. We will promote ourselves as proudly Cape Breton in origin, and as the only 100% certified organic, sustainable microbrewery in the Maritimes.”

Brookland I think I know who you are talking about, I talked him into applying for where he lives. So far so good. I talked to the Whiffens a couple months ago and they are in Lyons Brook. Up in Mr. X's area. Not sure where they are with theirs right now. I haven't registered yet still trying to work through all the costs, to see if it should go ahead. The more the merrier in my opinion.

Re: The rumor and random babble thread
My In-laws live in Lyons Brook and are friends with them. When I talked to them they were still in the planning stages. I have an e-mail addy if you want to talk to them. They are super nice people, and wouldn't mind hearing from the craft beer community. P.M me if you want it.

Drinkable is a good quality to have
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I always question the value and accuracy of '100% organic sustainable' marketing. Does anybody know what that actually means...

I hope that they know farmhouse beers are Belgian. With names like theirs I'll be expecting Whites and Bocks.mr x wrote:Anyone ever go to the ns joint registry of stocks and search breweries....

My friend sourced some info on the Tiptons. They're engineers from Ontario/England. http://shelburnedocs.com/thetiptons.htm
Edit: The brewery has a website. Opens next spring.

Re: The rumor and random babble thread
It's actually not quite on the Cabot Trail, but close enough. If Herring Choker Deli is still open (just before the Red Barn), that would be a great spot to sell it. Hopefully the hotels and restaurants in Baddeck would pick it up too.chalmers wrote:If, like me, you had no idea where Nyanza was, it is located right on the Cabot Trail. When talking to the owner of the old New Scotland brewery, there was a potential deal with people from Lyons Brook in the works
I'd put my money on the Whiffins being the new owners

Re: The rumor and random babble thread
Maybe, although it didn't seem that way from some additional info I got, but maybe that has changed. I think it would be a sensible decision though. Looking through the registry, the Townhouse people are there, and another brewpub of some sort as well.

So I found out that the building will not be a brewery, but the Lyons Brook people are starting a brewery, only on their own property and on a smaller scale

That's a shame that the old brewery will not live on. I wonder if they'll sell that sign? Might be a nice souvenier.
