Canadian Brewing Awards

Post by PEIBeerGuy » Sat May 31, 2014 10:15 pm

I didn't see the whole list of winners yet (but search #CBA2014 on Twitter, and you'll see Craig has done a great job there), but let's start the results rolling on here with the news that Nash won a gold with Wreckoning RIS!

Congrats! :rockin:

"Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chamber of my brain -
Quaintest thoughts - queerist fancies
Come to life and fade away;
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

Congrats to Nash and also to Boxing Rock, on their medals.

I think it was Wreckoning that you sent me over last year IIRC Nash. Man it was so smooth, words to really describe it fail me and my memory. :lol:

Congrats Nash on your gold for Wreckoning RIS! Can't say I'm surprised. It's an amazing beer. Happy to see Great Lakes Brewery got brewery of the year. I tried allot of their beer a few weeks ago in Ontario and they were all top notch.

Congrats to all the medalists :cheers:
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

American Style IPA, yes. While I thought there were some odd choices in some categories, like that one, this is probably the first year where they've appeared to have both a broad range of entries from across the country and even in those categories I found the odd choices, I can't necessarily disagree with the winners. More am issue of personal taste really. They've come a long way. And fuck yes to Nash's gold. But they've not fully legitimized until he wins gold for an Imperial IPA. ;-)

Intrigued that Alberta was the only province shut out of the awards. I hear there's been regulatory changes that will likely encourage more breweries to open there, so hopefully that changes.

With the money floating around out there, I expect a massive boom shortly, followed by the requisite bust somewhere down the road.
