Propeller Imperial Stout

Post by Tim Gregory » Sun Nov 28, 2010 5:50 pm

Hey folks,

I haven't seen it posted anywhere so just FYI Propeller RIS is out now. It's in the 500ml bottles this year instead of the standard size.

Has anybody seen the MacAuslan RIS again at out in Bedford? Or anywhere else for that matter?
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

Was just out there this afternoon. None. They did have some Howe Sound Growlers though that looked interesting. Has anybody tried their line of beer?

Chalmers and I have had all the howe sound from Harvest. The best of the bunch was the Nut Brown for sure. I would like to have some others that I see on their website though, so hopefully they show up in the future.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I tried their nut brown last week, it was pretty good...but then again, I am a sucker for any dark beer 8-)

Yeah, the Howe Sound stuff is pretty decent, not exceptional for sure but pretty good. Plus you get a 1L swingtop, nothing wrong with that. I agree with LiverDance (Brian I'm assuming?), the Nut Brown was the pick of the litter.

You assume correct. I name my beers after songs so how could I not want to try Total Eclipse of the Hop!! The 3 beavers imperial red and pumpkineater look interesting as well.

I visited the brewery last month and bought almost one of each of what they had in stock for my camping tip. Trying to get through all that great beer was wonderful, but quite a challenge given that many of them were imperial. Three Beavers was one of the best. I brought home a Diamond Head Oatmeal Stout and Bailout Bitter, which are still in the fridge. We could crack one when you bring over Andy's grain if you're keen (later tonight maybe?).

I'd love to do that, but it will have to be tomorrow.
