This is my first post as all the questions I have had so far have been answered by searching the archives, thank you.
The product, Whirlfloc, appears to be commonly used, when I search the web it seems to be carrageenan but the tablet size is supposed to be 1 gm or possibly 2.5 gm and most recommend 1/2 tablet per 5 gal batch. ( More detailed info indicates that over dosing does not work well).
I have 2 lbs of pharmaceutical carrageenan (from developing recipes for iced coffees) and would like to know if anyone can tell me the size of a Whirlfloc tablet and if there are other ingredients listed on the package. I assume around a 1/4 tsp of carageenan added 5 min before flameout might be an appropriate substitution?

Not the same product you have but it should be the same dosage rate.

Re: carrageenan
Just the info needed, seems that 1gm per 5gal is a good place to start.

Probably more effort than you would want to do but this reference has a procedure to test out the optimal amount for your wort.

Re: carrageenan
Great info, I will file it and return to later, after I learn the the basics. Found the info needed, seems the powder has no other ingredients so is twice as strong but needs to be slaked in cold water. Will try with only 1/2 gm.
Just brewed my first AG batches (after 20 years of exracts), 2 small, 3 gal SMASH to start the learning.
