Indoor brewing - Do you exhaust? How?
Moving to an apartment soon and going to an electric set-up, just want to get a feel for the different methods people are using to handle the moisture.
I'm hoping I can get away with a window fan, as I have no range hood.

I tried the window fan but the results were not good. I got a range hood from Costco and vent it out my spare bedroom window. There are a couple of pics in this thread http://www.brewnosers.org/forums/viewto ... c&start=75" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I also still have the exhaust fan at the end of the thread if you are interested in that, it doesn't have a hood but I have a stainless bbq cover I was gonna use for it.

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I picked up a cheap(ish) inline duct fan for my setup. It works great - zero humidity inside on brew day. I brewed inside once before I had the fan and it was horrible..the basement looked like I was in the jungle.

I may be interested in that fan, bit early to tell what I'm going to need yet, does it plug in the wall?LiverDance wrote:I tried the window fan but the results were not good. Not at the moment but you could easily add the plug to it.

Just open the door or windows during the boil to let the steam out. Even on cold winter days the heat from the boiling pot keeps the room warm enough. That's what I do anyway and find it works well.

I brewed inside without ventilation for a winter. Didn't enjoy wiping condensation off the roof. That was with two fans, one blowing in one window and another blowing out the other.

I'm gonna man up and just blew outdoors, however I will be investing in some sort of canopy.

My kitchen has a patio door that opens to the outside and I leave that open, If you were opening windows, they might need to be large windows maybe.

I hooked up an inline fan from home depot to a 6" piece of flexible duct work. It works like a charm not one bit of added humidity.

Re: Indoor brewing - Do you exhaust? How?
I brewed quite a few batches on the stove last winter, without any ventilation. It was pretty bad and steamy, but opening the window or the front door helped.
