Rogue's Roost sold to PEI Brewing?
At least that's what staff at Tom's are apparently telling people.

Hmm, interesting. Now, was it A PEI brewing company, or THE PEI Brewing Company? There are a couple on the island, and I know that the Prince Edward Distilling is looking to expand to Halifax.

There were rumors Saturday night that rogue's wasn't making any $$$, and something might happen.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter.

It would have to be the PEI Brewing Company, wouldn't it? They're the only one's big enough aren't they?chalmers wrote:Hmm, interesting. Now, was it A PEI brewing company, or THE PEI Brewing Company? Yes, but I had heard that the distillery was on their way here. Not sure how deep their pockets are.BobbyOK wrote:It would have to be the PEI Brewing Company, wouldn't it? Having said that, I believe we have confirmation now that it IS PEIBC.

Lorne mentioned a couple days ago that it was Gahan not PEI Brewing. Not sure if that's accurate.
Also, the Prince Edward Distillery is looking to move here but not into a brewpub.

What exactly is the relationship there? PEI Brewing brews the Gahan beers, do they not? Is Gahan the pub/restaurant and PEI Brewing the brewer? Or is it more complicated than that?NASH wrote:Lorne mentioned a couple days ago that it was Gahan not PEI Brewing. Not sure if that's accurate.

I'm not 100% sure. PEI Brewing is about 50% ownership by the Murphys and 50% someone else who is also a working partner of the PEI brewing Co, so I've been told. So, they could be a parent company that bought out Gahan at the onset. Or they might be completely independant of Gahan House. The name of beer doesn't mean anything, it's just a name. You know how Picaroons isn't Picaroons?BobbyOK wrote:What exactly is the relationship there? PEI Brewing brews the Gahan beers, do they not? Is Gahan the pub/restaurant and PEI Brewing the brewer? My understanding is that PEI Brewing was set up as a parent company to expand production of Gahan and also brew non-Gahan branded beer (e.g. Beach Chair Lager).

I was always wondering about that space. I remember in the day there was the Roost, Tom's, and that bar upstairs which is now a pool hall. There's always people at the Roost but never a huge crowd.
In any case, if this is true I hope the Roost keeps brewing with the same staff as I'm quite partial to what they do (rasp wheat, blueberry wheat, oatmeal stout, etc.) Right now Gahan Harbourfront is a mess with wait times for food, staff that has no idea what the tap list is, let alone when new beers are being tapped, etc. Last I checked they still hadn't tapped Karen's BPA or Maple Porter, both of which the Internet (Chris) told me would be tapped a week ago. Hell, their board says today they're launching the Peach Wit.

Has anyone heard anything more on this? A family member was at a dinner party a couple of days ago, and apparently bumped into the owner of the Roost, who said he sold the place last week.

Yes, Gahan owns it and plans on keeping everything as-is (name, staff, etc). The building is supposed to be coming down in a few years anyway.

I also heard from two people now that the plan is to keep it the same but start bottling and get Rogues Roost into the NSLC.

wow that is something. I heard a while back that one that they were bought and employees were scared of losing their jobs. Good to hear they are leaving it alone an even building it up
