Heat wrap/belt

Post by dexter » Wed Oct 08, 2014 2:01 pm

with the cooler weather coming I was wondering if anyone uses one or if it's worth buying one? I was a little late on my latest saison and the house won't get up to the mid twenties consistently for hopefully 8-10 months.

I've never used one, but I'm thinking about doing the aquarium heater in my glycol chiller bath w/STC1000 and recirculating constantly. The same could be done with a water bath and the carboy or bucket sitting in the water bath. Some people even talk about inserting the aquarium heater directly in the fermenter, though I can't say I would want to do that.

I swear by the water bath and STC 1000 method. I just use a small aquarium pump to circulate the water in a large rubbermaid container and it can hold 2 full carboys at a time. I have had great luck with this method!

I'd never thought of that, not a bad idea at all. But with my stc1000 luck I'd have a boil over in my swamp cooler:(

I used the wrap with Thermowell and my temp controller (all from everwood) for my saison...worked great

I use the heat belt with no issues maintaining ferment temps - haven't tried raising to saison temps though.

I burned out an, albeit old, brew belt fermenting a Saison a while back. Hard to say if it was just its time to go.

I'm going to try the belt, I have a couple of other brews that like warmer temps ( wine ect) and other the sticking the fireplace I don't have a "warm" zone
