New Beer in Town - Bishop's Cellar

Post by BobbyOK » Fri Jul 11, 2014 6:20 pm

Noticed earlier in the week that Stubborn Goat had Chocolate Manifesto and Shoulders of Giants IIPA from Flying Monkeys on the menu, and that Stillwell had started selling Celebrator Doppelbock. Found them all tonight at Bishop's Cellar if anyone else is interested. Curious to try the two Flying Monkeys' beers given they both won gold at the CBAs this year (Experimental beer and Imperial IPA categories). And Celebrator is, well, Celebrator. Legendary Doppelbock.

The chocolate manifesto was a huge disappointment for me, couldn't finish a small glass of it. Tasted like a bad chocolate syrup.

Fermenting: Oud bruin/Vienna Pekko SMaSH
On tap: Nelson dry hopped Berliner/ Scottish Heavy 70-/ NE IPA

I couldn't choke down much of the BNL stout, so I gave Chocolate Manifesto a pass. Did pick up a Celebrator, though.

I'm heading up tomorrow and will likely grab some Red Racer IPA
Nova Prime Taproom
Tap 1: Festa Brew Scotch Ale
Tap 2:
"Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chamber of my brain -
Quaintest thoughts - queerist fancies
Come to life and fade away;
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

First time they've had beer on the site, after years of bugging them. Yay!

Any chance that they have relatively fresh, properly stored Red Racer IPA?

Shoulders of Giants is legit. I don't know that I'd call it the best in the country, but I can see how it would have won that category. Haven't tried the Manifesto yet.

It is, completely. I tried this Saturday early in the day and it was fantastic.

More new stuff today - Muskoka Summer Weiss and Twice as Mad Tom IIPA, a few more Dieu de Ciels and Trou du Diables (Apocalyso and Shawi Beach were new, couple others that have been at Premier), and Anchor Steam, Liberty, and Porter.

The Twice as Mad Tom is awesome. I couldn't choose between it and the regular Mad Tom on my vacation (although I found them surprisingly different).

I'm super-excited that Anchor Steam and Liberty are back. Premier hasn't had them since the Stubborn Goat allegedly bought out everything they had before Christmas. What were the quantities like?

For all the beers that have come and gone there, those 3 anchor beers are as solid a lineup as it gets IMHO.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

I saw 2 or 3 cases of each out on the floor, as well as a dozen or so in the fridge.
