I guess we should count ourselves lucky that people from other parts of the country think we have a thriving beer scene.

No doubt about it - when I first moved to the east cost (to Halifax in 1995), everyone proudly told me that the city had the largest number of bars per capita than any other city in North America. It was the 'Heaven' part that took me by surprise too, but reading from the author's perspective, its easy to see that we have something others could be envious about.derek wrote:Well, "Heaven" might be overstating it, but with two thriving independent breweries, Granite, a few brew pubs, a thriving homebrew community AND the irreplaceable Nash, it sure beats purgatory
He has a good point, too, about the sheer number of pubs. Try to find as many good pubs, within walking distance, in downtown Toronto (hint: imo, it's ONE: C'est What)
Maybe they don't qualify as pubs, but Volo, BeerBistro, and Smokeless Joe's are all walking distance and all have better selection than you'll find anywhere in Atlantic Canada save Garrison Ale House in Fredericton.derek wrote:Well, "Heaven" might be overstating it, but with two thriving independent breweries, Granite, a few brew pubs, a thriving homebrew community AND the irreplaceable Nash, it sure beats purgatory

I missed Smokeless Joe's but Volo and BeerBistro are overpriced even for downtown T.O. - definitely I don't qualify them as pubs.BobbyOK wrote:Maybe they don't qualify as pubs, but Volo, BeerBistro, and Smokeless Joe's are all walking distance and all have better selection than you'll find anywhere in Atlantic Canada save Garrison Ale House in Fredericton.derek wrote:Well, "Heaven" might be overstating it, but with two thriving independent breweries, Granite, a few brew pubs, a thriving homebrew community AND the irreplaceable Nash, it sure beats purgatory
